Hi

I'm so fed up and was wondering if anyone else had expericed this .....

Since December, my son has been constantly ill. Seriously, he has a week of illness, followed by a week or two of being well - then he's ill again!

Generally it's a case of high temp 39 - 40 for about 4 days - doctor says it's viral. Last week he was prescribed antibiotics for an ear infection. Finished them on Tuesday and today he's got high temperature again - 39.

I can't believe he's been so ill constantly for nearly 3 months. To make it worse, when he gets ill his temp is so hard to control - he throws up anything we give him so the meds don't stay down long enough to work.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried about him - surely this can't be normal?

Thanks in advance
Mrs OB

Has he started at nursery recently? It's really common I'm afraid at this age for them to get one thing after another - my daughter is 2.4 and she's had constant infections since she started nursery in October - she's had conjunctivitis, colds, vomiting, threadworms, chickenpox, molluscum, ear infections, tummy upsets, you name it, she's had it.

It's how they build an immune system.

It is, I'm afraid, normal.

He will get better as the weather does. These things tend to be seasonal.

Hi ladies,

Just wanted to update on my thread which I started a few weeks ago.

A few days after I posted this message we were at A&E at 2:00 in the morning. We were sent home as son apparently had a virus

Two days after that we were at A&E again and this time my son was admitted on my insistence. After a few tests he was diagnosed with pneumonia and was in hospital for a week being given IV fluids and antibiotics. He was a very poorly boy and is still on antibiotics 2 weeks later .

He had been ill for quite a long time and all along the doctors said it was a virus. Just want to say to all mummies that we know our children best - stick to your guns if you feel they are not getting the best treatment. I will next time.

MrsOB you have my sympathy. This happend to my DD. When she was 5 she got ill just before christmas and it wasn't till the Feb when we were rushed from the Dr's to the hospital with suspected pneumonia. I'd been to the dr's 8 times in 6 weeks and been told various things, like because her lips and fingers were turning blue, I should buy her some gloves. The best one was "don't worry be happy" that Dr got an earfull and it was two days later she ended up in hospital.

I too went along with the dr's and had I got nowhere with the last one I saw we would have taken her to A&E.

DD was week for ages afterwards and ended up with pneumonia almost exactly a year later. This time I was very bossy with the dr and she got antibiotics straight away.

Give him a big cuddle from me and give those dr's hell
