Conjunctivitus in 1 year old, any natural cures?

DS2 has got conjunctivitus and his eyes look quite sore and gunky.
Haven't taken him to the GP as would prefer to treat him naturally.
Are there any natural remedies I can give him?
He is breatfed, would breast milk help (if I can aim it right!)? I remember being told to put bm in his eyes when he had this problem as a baby.
Thanks

yes breast milk works wonders. Just express some off, use it to clean his eye with cotton ball, 3 times a day or more if needed. hTH

Thanks I followed your advice at bath time, will keep doing this and hope it clears up soon.

breast milk is good,
use warm water on cotton wool to clean.i took my ds to doctors and it cleared up in a few days.

I took DS (21 months) to the Dr last week as he'd had conjunctivitis for a week and it was getting no better despite bathing it with a mild saline solution and breast milk. Dr said that conjunctivitis does not clear on it's own and always needs antibiotic drops.

I am a bit confused cos the NHS website says that it can go on it's own!

DS has had it 3 times now and I have to say I've left it a week each time and it's never cleared without drops.

When DS had conjunctivitis, the GP told me that breast milk was the best possible thing and wouldn't prescribe antibiotics. You try explaining that at nursery...

fatcontroller depends on why they have the conjectivist in the first place. My girls sometimes clears sometimes doesnt.

yes - if no improvement after 3-5 days of water / bm bathing I go to the GP

some bouts last longer than others

I also read that antiobiotics are not generally prescribed any more, though this may not apply to a-b drops.
He has had it since Tuesday I think and it is a bit better but not great.

Salt water always works for my children. Not too salty. A GP recommended this.
