1 year old's first bout of proper puking. Any tips/advice for novice mum?

My 14 month old dd has just had two big pukes, about an hour apart. She was just being put to bed when she first got sick, but seemed perfectly fine - no crying, no whinging - so thought it could have been wind/coughing that made her sick and gave her a couple oz more of her bottle. Within an hour she was sick again (all over bed, self, floor sorry if tmi). But still, no crying, no bother, no temperature, just tired and a little startled.

So I sat her up for about half an hour and offered her a few sips of water, which she took, and now she's back in bed, all's quiet.

I'm not worried really, as she's not distressed. but I just want to be sure that a couple of sips of water is enough. Should I offer anything else if she's sick again? Should I offer her her bottle as usual in the morning? Am I being a horrible mum putting her back in her cot alone when she could get sick again???? Am I worrying too much?

I always had poorly dc in bed with me when they were sick. A few sips of water is fine, if she doesn't get a temperature, dont give her more medicine, it can make them sick, see how she seems in the morning, if she still seems unwell i wouldn't give milk. Good Luck

If she continues to be sick then keep up the small but regular sips of fluids (not dairy). My ds2 ended up in hospital with dehydration because I made the mistake of giving him big cups of water to get fluid into him which he then promptly threw back up (I remember Dh and I saying that we should just bypass the middle man and chuck it straight on the carpet!!) Ice lollies are good too.

I would sleep close if she has been sick, she may do it again in the middle of the night and you would want to be aware so that you could deal with it quickly.

and just sips of water if she wants. I believe it's ok to carry on breastfeeding when they are vomiting, but not formula as it's likely to make them sick again.

No you're not being a horrible mum putting her back in her cot again. Just stay close and keep checking on her. Hope she settles soon - it's horrible when dcs are sick at that age, it seems so violent! She'll let you know if she's not interested in anything to eat or drink in the morning so as long as you're not going to give her loads of fatty dairy stuff, she will be fine eating and drinking plainer foods and just keep her hydrated with lots of water too but taken in little sips or it'll make her sick again.

Thanks everyone. She seems to be alright so far, no more sick. I'm tempted to bring her into our bed to keep an eye on her though.

Hope you have a good night.

Just an update: DD slept pretty well (once she got to sleep) and there was no more sick. Had a drink of water and half a bottle, and a nibble on some toast this morning. Seems happy enough. Phew!

Thanks for all your help.
