Bad reaction to 8 week immunisations

artichokes · 17/02/2009 20:07

DD2 had her 8 week jabs this morning.
She now has a temp of 101F (after calpol) and is alternating between being v sleepy and crying with an unusual high pitched cry.

Should I worry?

What is that in oC? DD was v poorly too, got upto 39.5C. She also had a raised hot lump on her leg. I called NHS direct who were v useful. I put a tepid flannel on her leg to soothe her and BF alot in a cool room. Her temp went down gradually but it was a long night

Hope she feels better soon.

high pitched cry i think is one of the things to look out for post immunisations

i would call NHS Direct or if her fever doesn't come down, A & E

is she drinking anything at all?

callmeovercautious · 17/02/2009 20:13

OK - 101F is 38.3C - hot but within limits.

Keep her cool and top up the calpol when the time is up.

Don't panic yet, just lots of cuddles and poss skin to skin to calm her.

I am not sure how to convert to centigrade.
She is BFing but also possetting alot more than normal.

Its the cry that is worrying me most. I could try nhS Direct but usually find they either state the obvious or send you to A&E.

Make sure it is not cold - just tepid i.e body temp. Cold is not good for some reason I don't remember (sorry!)

The crying is a worrying sign, I would go to Aand E and tell them you just had the jabs. It is a warning sign that your child is not good with jabs, and whatever you are told by the pro-vax its a red flag, my son had bad reactions to jabs but never cried that high pitch cry.

Up to one in ten children may get some swelling and redness at the site of the injection.

From the NHS

Very rarely (in less than 1 in 1000 children), a day or two after they have received this vaccine some babies have

experienced febrile convulsions (fits)
had very high temperatures
been floppy and less responsive than usual
cried an unusual, high-pitched cry.

they say you should see your doctor.

If it is the very high pitch crying it is calle the cri-encephalic, I would be very concerned.

I dont want to scare you at all, but vaccines espcially the whooping cough part can cause encephalitis and they high pitch cry is a symptom of that. You should get your daughter checked out right away.
