thanks to all those who replied to all my manic frantic threads so thought this was best way to update

little one still got high fever..still not eating

i did to ibu/cal alternating even though was told not to by nhs direct

problem am having is keeping little one body temp constant and can't seem to find anything to make him eat

take grobag off ...he cools down but then at night he starts to shiver and goes real cold

blanket etc makes no difference as lies flat dwon on belly immobile when sleeps and does not toss or turn much...so stuck blanket same as removing grobag in term sof distubing

but have had no sleep for days and this up and down of tmep is baffling

plus little one very demanding and still is even more so - today couldnt even mop up vomit as little one holding book for me to read screaming in a tantrum!

by the way doc said can give ibu for 5/6 days even though pack says do not give for more than 3 days - this true?

thanks for all your support

I'm sorry your little one is feeling so unwell. The ibu bottle only says not to give for more than three days as if a child needs it for that long they should be seen by a proffesional.

Seona1973 · 16/02/2009 13:59

the only reason it says to give for 3 days is so that you will visit the doctor. If the doctor is ok-ing it for longer then that is fine.

poshwellies · 16/02/2009 14:43

Has your child actually been seen by a gp?

I would be taking mine asap as the fever could be caused by a throat or ear infection.

Both of mine have been seen in A&E for super high fevers.dd was kept in overnight as her temperature wouldn't go down and they needed to monitor and see if it was due to a bladder infection and ds was diagnosed with a upper respiratory infection along with a ear infection. Both very poorly.

I would be taking mine to the gp if you haven't already.

bumbly · 16/02/2009 20:09

LIZS · 17/02/2009 10:49

how long has he had it ? Are you alternating Ibruprofen and Calpol as the combination can work well. I'm sure you can continue to give the Ibruprofen as it is on medical advice. A doctor can usually see throught he effects of pain/fever relievers so would n't worry too much about taking him back whenever you need to. What was the diagnosis ?

Tiggiwinkle · 17/02/2009 10:52

If he still has a fever of 40 deg I would get him seen again if I were you.

luvaduck · 17/02/2009 10:57

take him to the doctor

lindseyfox · 18/02/2009 14:29

Keep doing the alternate calpol and iburprofen and ensure has max dose in 24hrs including during the night.

ensure drinking lots even if have to syringe feed fluids and give ice lollies.

if no better in morning I would either ring gp and ask to be seen with a referral to the local childrens hospital to their assessment unit and if no joy I would take to local accident and emergency just to be sure.
