Baby vitamins - worth a go?

My little boy 7mths has been really poorly. Had gastroentiritis (sp? before xmas, then bronchiolitis and secondary infection over xmas (which took 7 weeks to go completely) and now had something else (off to doctors in a bit but lost his voice and coughing until he is sick ).

So......... has anyone tried baby vitamins? Any benefit/recommendations? He is due to start nursery in a few weeks (i work there) so know he will get everything then too.

my little one was constantly poorly when he was about the same age as yours ... especially when he started nursery at 6 months - we went from one ear infection to another etc. I spoke to my mum's nutritionist in the end as I was concerned about the amount of antibiotics he had to take. She recommended he take vitamin drops (which I used to put into his morning porridge/cereal and some probiotics. They seemed to help boost his immune system. I think he also took some mineral supplements. It may be worth speaking to someone to get something similar!

BEWARE, you would not think it possible but some infant vitamin drops contain PEANUT OIL, as do some of the "fortified with vitamins" milk drinks aimed at children (not babies)

watch out if any family history of allergy, or if you plan to avoid nuts just in case

ABIDEC is one that does have peanut oil in, not sure about other brands

ds had croup a while ago ... if he struggles at night time humidifiers are excellent .. you can get them in argos!

we used dalivit for both our boys - i don't know if it has nut oil in though - luckily no history of allergies in our family.

ds1 had lots of problems last winter and coughing till he made himself dry retch was a big thing. always at night at around 2/3 am - paed finally diagnosed ultra sensitive bronchial tubes that were producing mucus making him cough, but not "chesty" like a chest infection. we had 6 weeks of montelukast which got him through to spring and less viruses etc around.

no problems at all this year so it may be soemthing your lo grows out of

Thanks ladies. I have a humidifier, seems to help.

Re: peanut oil - HUGE thanks for the warning. I have an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts. Not sure if i would have checked
