Toddler develops hypoglycaemia when off colour

Hi,

my little boy has had 3 episodes of severe hypoglycaemia since October 2008, requiring hospitalisation and much prodding, poking, stabbing and distress. The first time he was comatose in his cot after being a little off colour, the 2nd time he had a slight upset tummy beforehand and the 3rd time (last week) he had chicken pox, and was being continually sick. He had a hypo' just after birth but no reason was found for that.

Has anyone any experience of repeated hypo' episodes in non-diabetic infants?

DD2 has just been diagnosed with ketotic hypoglycaemia. She had an episode of low sugar and ketones etc etc. Saw Paediatric specialist yesterday and then googled, the wiki has a really good explanation and if your ds is the same you will tick a lot of boxes when reading this.

There is no need for a cure as they usually grow out of it by 4. Read the wiki description and it tells you loads.

Hi all,

Just an update on my DS2, no more hypoglycaemic episodes since Feb' but have used the maxijul a couple of times when he was "a bit off colour". Keeping a close eye on him during the current hot spell as he overheats easily and sweats heavily all over at the drop of a hat. DS2 had some further metabolic tests done a couple of weeks ago, just waiting for the results and is seeing an endocrinologist as well in July.

Lulalullabye - I think that might be what they were testing for also one of the Glycogen storage disease types.

Hope everyone is enjoying the sun, I will update you soon.
