Bad discharge in 3yo DD

DD1 is 3 and has been potty trained for a few months, she has recently been insisting on wiping herself after a wee so when she had a bit of discharge a few days ago I didn't think much of it.
Over the last few days it has got worse, even though Dh and I are wiping her after the loo, and I am just wondering what to do.
It is quite thick green mucousy discharge but not smelly. Her skin around her labia (not the actualy labia but furtehr away) is red and looks sore and a bit weepy and she is complaining that it hurts or her knickers are scratching her.
Had her in docs yesterday for conjunctivitis and am pissed off with myself that I didn't mention this!

If its not smelly its probably not anything you need to worry about urgently. I would take her on Monday and in the meantime stop using soap on her fanjo - my DD used to get eczema there and used to get a discharge as a result - as soon as we stopped using soap it cleared up.

Can't you get an out of hours appointment with your Primary Care Trust? We call our regular GP, get the number from their answer machine, and then get an appointment with an out of hours GP at the local hospital. You don't really want to leave it.

If she's in pain or has a temperature, I would try and see a doctor today.

If not, wait until monday, but definitely take her monday, don't wait any longer then that.

sausagenmash · 14/02/2009 15:48

Agree with belgo - she may have wiped the wrong way and some poo bits may have found their way up there (soz if TMI). Is she scratching? May she inadvertently poked something in there? (again, soz if TMI!) How about a nice warm bath, no funny soaps / bubbles, and some sudacrem or something similiar on the sore skin?

JackBauer · 14/02/2009 15:58

She's not scratching, and it doesn't smell, and no temp, but she says it hurts. She does have a history of randomly saying her bottom hurts though!

Out of hours appts take frigging ages to get and are always at stupid times, so woudl rather wait until monday unless it's desperate.

I'd wait til Monday if no other symptoms. Just as long as you're sure it's clean without using any soap or anything.

JackBauer · 14/02/2009 16:01

Not TMI, I thought that might be it, she is not exactly hygeine conscious! will have another bubble free bath tonight and see what happens.
Reassurance is what is needed here!

when dd recently had a discharge she was prescribed canesten 1% cream to be applied twice a day. It did take a couple of weeks to clear up completely

sausagenmash · 14/02/2009 16:04

Sounds like what you are doing is absolutely fine, then! Keep her clean, another fun bath with no bubbles later, keep an odd eye on her temp, and make a GP appointment first thing Monday morning..
