Both DD's have had bad colds the last few weeks, DD2 has been teething as well so is extra snotty.
At teatime today I noticed DD2 had green bogey type gunk coming from both eyes, wiped it but then at bathtime they both had it. Then afte I had dressed and dried hair they both had more had more (half an hour later).
Do I take her to docs tomorrow or wait and see what happens?
Does it always need drops?

(vaguely hoping I won't need to get drops into both DD's as it will be horrific)

IME they don't always need drops, it can go on its own esp if its with a cold (also ime).

If still there or worse on Saturday then I would take them to Drs.

daisydora · 12/02/2009 20:02

My GP said often lo's wipe snot into their eyes thus causing the infection and very often it will clear itself. If was to reappear a cople of days after it clears then I would take them for drops

DaisyMooSteiner · 12/02/2009 20:02

Well I would see how it goes tomorrow and then try phoning the dr to see if they'll prescribe something over the phone - ours will for conjunctivitis and it will save you a trip tomorrow or to the out of hours doctor on Satuday.

you could try wiping eyes with a cotton pad soaked in cooled boiled water with a pinch of salt in it...

JackBauer · 12/02/2009 20:06

Ok, will hang fire but would rather go inot docs TBH as I woujld have to pick up scrip anyway if they prescribed it.
Hope fully it won 't need drops
Our ooh GP is worse than awful, you have to call NHS direct and go through call handler, then nurse, then doc (normally waiting for callbacks each time) then they call you with a appt at the out of hours, which is not negotiable, and go to teh main hospital to an area behind A and E.
It is not fun, which is why I am known for taking DD's into docs on a friday with teh start of something that nmight be serious, but might not!

I have a mate I havent seen in ages coming round tomorrow pm with her DS too, and I dont want to cancel cos I really fancy a natter! Will have to text her. humph.

Sticky discharge is normally conjunctivitis.
If you can't get to the GP you can buy antibiotic eye drops for conjunctivitis over the counter from the pharmacy now (only if your children are over 2) if it doesn't clear/gets worse over the weekend.

JackBauer · 12/02/2009 20:25

thanks TheSonnetts, that's what I was looking for, but DD2 is 16 months so looks like am scuppered

how are they today?

JackBauer · 13/02/2009 20:46

Ach, Conjuctivitus, both of them. RIvers of green snot comikng from 4 eyes. It's not pleasant.
And now I have to put 12 lots of eye drops (4 eyes, 3 times a day) for 5 days. And I got kicked in the head when I did DD2's.
And only got 2 hours sleep last night as they were taking it in shifts to wake me up.

and I just dropped off on teh sofa after they went to bed 2 hours ago and DH decided to wake me up to go to bed, and now I can't get back to sleep.

But thanks for asking!
