Diarrhoea - do I need to take DD to GP?

TMI, by very nature I'm afraid
DD had her first half day at nursery on Friday and ate red meat for the first time. She was a little "explosive" that afternoon, which I put down to the meat. We had more dirty nappies than usual over the weekend, maybe 3 a day (usually 1)
On sunday she started with a cold which had turned into croup by the evening
Since then, she has been very gassy (both ends!!) which I'm assuming is cos she is taking in more air when she drinks, as she can't breathe through her nose very well. Her poo has been getting looser and looser, I put this down to the cold - swallowing all that mucus etc. I seem to remember this happened last time she had a cold.
Now, I can't deny she has diarrhoea, it is to the point now where I have to change her nappy if she farts, as there is some leakage (I know, I know, tmi)
Thing is, she is happy, crawling around and playing, has no temp (only raised Sunday night), eating some food, though not as much as usual, but drinking more milk to compensate.
The books and websites say I should get her to the GP, but do I really need to? Please tell me what you would do, don't feel you have to be ultra-cautious in your advice cos I might sue you if she is really ill! My gut instinct is that she will be over this in a few days, and giving her plenty of milk and whatever food she wants, and keeping her warm, will be fine

Ok, you said not to be ultra-cautious so here is what I would do.

I would not generally take a baby in for diarhoea alone. But your dd has been runny and getting runnier since Friday - which is 5 days now. Combined with her croup - which I would take her in for alone but I am not familiar with this condition - and her not breathing well through her nose, I would take her in just in case.

I would give about 5 days for a baby to kick things on their own and then start monitoring if things don't improve by then. Could be secondary infections which your dd might need antibiotics to throw off.

Does she look like she might have lost weight?

when ds had diarrhoea at this age I kept him off milk and dairy for a day or two as that can prolong it - I let him eat/drink anything else though.

Thanks
Seona If I kept her off dairy, she wouldn't eat anything!! Yoghurt is her fave and the one thing I can guarantee getting into her.

I ended up ringing GP - he said he would see us if I wanted to, but he said she sounded "OK" as she was happy, playing etc. But I'm to call back tomorrow for an update.
The reason I ended up ringing was because she suddenly developed "sticky eyes" and that just seemed another thing, she seemed really run down. GP said it is likely to be a virus causing all these things, and if she still seemed "herself", she was probably coping with it, and that it was good that she was eating and drinking

Blueshoes the croup has gone now, it lasted less than 24 hours, she just has a nasty cough now. But we were all quite freaked about it at the time
