Has anyone else sent their child to a Chiropractor - would you recommend?

DS1 (aged 4) suffers constantly from coughs/colds/ear infections and I mean constantly. He's coughing away in his sleep now as I write. We've sought NHS treatment numerous times and have been fobbed off with the following
a) he'll grow out of it
b) it's normal, give him cough medicine
c) it's an allergy
d) it's asthma (DS1 given inhalers - have no effect)

Anyway, someone in RL told me about chiropratic and said that it had had an amazing effect on her child who used to suffer very badly from ear infections.

So I've made an appointment for next week. So am wondering if anyone on mn had taken their child to a chiropractor for anything like this and if so, what were the results?

My main worry is the cost - obviously it's not covered by the NHS so don't want to fork out for a lengthy treatment for no results. But am happy to fork out my life savings if it means we don't have to go through another winter like this one again.

Grateful for any advice/input

I would avoid chiropractor for two reasons - firstly the cost , the treatment seems to go on forever so ends up costing a small fortune. Also chiropractic is not particularly gentle and as it works on re-aligning bone, is less likely to affect ear and immunity issues.

My own children have had tremendous success with the Bowen technique - www.bowen-technique.co.uk/ - one has been treated for glue ear and recurrent ear infections, the treatment really helped. It is great for sorting out dippy immune systems - this is the first season in years that none of us have been struck down with coughs, colds and flu. It really is worth a look - normally 3 or 4 treatments are all that are needed and the weblink above links to Bowen practitioners around the country.

I haven't used a chiropractor but when DS3 was a babe I used to go to baby massage to help him relax and sleep, and it was a great help. Never heard of chiropractic to help with ear problems, but if you are prepared to pay then it may be worth looking at....
