dd1(10) has what look like enlarged taste buds on the end of her tongue

could these be ulcers?
She says they're quite painful.Have got her to rinse her mouth with salt water last night but didn't seem to help for very long.(remedy that my own dentist has always relied on for most sore mouth stuff!)Is it common for kids to get mouth ulcers?She sometimes gets them on her gum and doctor did give me some dissolving tablets for her that didn't seem to work either.Was told to make sure she takes vitamin supplements which she already does.

Could she have burned the end of her tongue on hot food or drink? If I do this, I get sort of enlarged looking marks on my tongue.

I've asked her this cos I too get these sort of things now and again.How long do yours usually take to go though?I think she's had these for about 4/5 days now.

I always got loads of mouth ulcers as a child. I was probably sensitive to certain toothpastes. Zendium is a good toothpaste (not sure for children though). Mouth ulcers should usually go themselves within a few days. Also I think sensitivites to certain fruits could cause it.

Another possibility is oral thrush, that causes white patches in the mouth. often very painful.

you don't contract thrush. You can just develop it in the mouth if you are ill or run down. Fairly common in children, and babies. But what you describe doesn't really sound like it.

oh right.no,hers are literally like enlarged buds.although she does say they're painful.

I think possibly a reaction to something -has she eaten anything new reacently?

They do sound like mouth ulcers and they can be very painful.

Could you ask a pharmacist to have a look and recommend something.

If it is mouth ulcers then the best treatment is oral medic. Available from Boots for BOUT £6 iirc. Someone on MN recommended it to me when I had mouth ulcers. Fantastic stuff if very painful for a minute or tw0 - you literally burn the ulcer off with a drop of acid.

I think the packet says not suitable for children, but perhaps ok on a 10yo?

Could it be geographical tongue?
