When my dd had it at 2 years I went back after a week TBh it was more for my sake than hers it really scared and stressed me out .

The doctor basically gave the same advice he had given the week before steamy bathrooms ,propping up at night .

Also if the cough settles when they are in a deep sleep it is a good sign and if they are floppy /blue tinge to lips or nails get help asap.

HTH and she gets better soon.

Sorry meant to say my dd's lasted around 2 weeks and she still had a slight cough for about a month .

We did get a tixylix battery operated thing that fills the room with stuff that is meant to ease coughing so maybe that will help too ours was 5.99 from morrisons.

Thanks, I'll have a look for the tixylix thing

When DS had it last year I was told to expect three or four nights, and was given steroids as apparently that's current advice from the paeds. I was also told not to bother with steam as it's more a displacement activity for the parents than helpful for the child.
What did help ( although your lo is probably too young to understand or co operate) was getting him to close his mouth and take tiny 'mouse breaths' - which I learnt about from a Buteyko Breathing course. He was still exhausted and poorly, but at least he was breathing normally.
I'd phone the out of hours service tonight and get him seen - a week seems a long time to me.

We tried the out of hours service last weekend but they had no appts left at our nearest place
They suggested we go to the local walk in centre (we didn't in the end as she didn't get any worse)
I've since found out that the walk in place won't treat the under 2s

She saw the doc on Mon and got ABs in case she got worse so we are starting them now

Why do you need an apt for the out of hours service? In any case, that was last weekend not this. I was told to come to the hospital as that's where the out of hours doc was.
Don't be fobbed off - if you're worried get her seen.

Thanks, if she gets worse we'll go to A&E
