How do you treat a sickness bug?

DS aged 3.8 has been vomitting since yesterday evening and throughout the night, has a temperature and is pretty lifeless.

What should I do? Should I feed him if he asks (not an issue at the moment) or do you need to "starve" the bug? I've read some other threads here which suggest ribena to help rehydrate which I will try but wondered if theres anything else I should be doing?? Thanks

DD has just recovered from this bug too.

I avoid all foods until he starts asking - and then stick to plain things, like toast, bananas, cereal etc.

I don't give any milk until all the sickness has stopped - just give water.

Calpol / Nurofen during the day for his temp and Medised / Nurofen at night to try to help him sleep.

Dd has just lay on the sofa for 3 days - either sleeping or watching CBeebies! Only today has she seemed better and eaten some breakfast. Concentrate on keeping the temp down and him comfortable. Hope he's better soon.

ice pops and desolves slower less likely to be heavy, on the belly and throw back up ,

use syringe and give small amounts at a time of medicine and if comes up you know how much has already been given so you can try again

plenty of fluids you dont need to worry about food but if hungry starchy foods mash potatoe plain pasta etc but food not nessassary if not hungry just lots of fluids

ice pops are amazing for sickness bug

DD started with this on Monday and is only just appearing 'normal' today - been very lifeless and sleepy all week but thankfully no temperature.

I contacted NHS Direct on Thursday just to see if I should take her to the GP and they told me to keep up fluids and feed high-carb foods - toast, pasta if she wanted it and that the advice now was not to starve a sickness bug or to avoid milk. DD hasn't had any milk though since early Wednesday as it was definitely making her vomit whereas most of the other things she ate/drank were staying down though her appetite has been tiny. I've been giving diluted fruit juice and very diluted blackcurrant squash to encourage her to drink as she wasn't very tempted by plain water.

Hope your DS feels better soon.

Try and get him to have sips of water, don't bother with food until he says he's hungry.

Thanks for advice everyone - thats really helped.

DS has managed a couple of ice lollies today and been asleep since 8pm so fingers crossed we might all get some sleep tonight ! His bedroom is fully prepared for another night of sickness with towells laid out, clean bedding & PJ's all ready!!

Detoxdiva & Mejon - glad to hear your LO's are on the mend. Hoping DS doesn't have the same bug - poor little things.
