snotty baby - ok to sleep in bouncy chair?

my 3 month old DD has a cold & whenever I put her down to sleep in her cot she wakes about 30mins later with a really snotty nose.

I've had her in a steamy bathroom & used some saline drops to make sure her nose was nice & clear before putting her to bed, and have some Olbas Oil on a tissue next to her cot, and another on the radiator.

The cot is currently raised about 4" at one end, do you think it's worth trying more? (I'm afraid it will be more like a slide!)

Last night I gave up trying to get her to sleep in the cot & put her in her bouncy chair, where she slept happily for 6hours straight - do you think this is ok? (for a few days while she has this cold)

I'm worried because they say you shouldn't keep babies in their car seats for more than 2hours - is this bouncy chair the same thing?

Oh, I did! I would say deffo!

You've done everything else I can think of. I found the saline drops worked best before the bath too - giving them plenty of time to clear everything - then again just before laying him down.

DS (now 2) used to suffer terribly with stuffy noses when he was tiny. A couple of nights I strapped him into his pushchair and left him to sleep next to our bed in that. (It was a Bugaboo and I put it on the setting between flat and upright).

I don't know whether she's right or not, but I asked my doc about how long it was okay to leave a baby in a bouncy chair. DD just WOULDN'T lay flat when she was tiny and spent the best part of her day in a BabyBjorn Babysitter. My doc said anything was fine as long as it was cloth and moulded to the body. She said it was just like a baby in a sling, which is what babies have been in forever. She said she HATED to see kids in carseats for long periods because they're rigid.

It's only going to be for an odd night or two. DD has perfect posture despite the bouncy chair!

Thank-you so much for putting my mind at ease :-) For some reason I had it in my head that it was the angle the baby was laying at which was the issue, but the rigidity of the car seat makes much more sense!

DD managed an hour in her cot last night before getting all bunged up, so I'm hoping she's on the mend now & that she doesn't get another cold soon! Do they get better at sleeping with snotty noses as they get older?

Dunno if you'll be back here to read this, but yeah, eventually.

I remember having terrible trouble with both of mine with blocked noses as little babies. I took DD to the doc (that poor lady doc must have been sick of seeing me , but she always had really calm and practical advice!) with a cold she'd had for weeks on end and the doc just said it was because their nasal passages are so, so tiny that it takes such a little amount of congestion to block them.

They do grow out of it. No probs for ages with DD (4.6) but DS (2) still used to get really bunged up up until about 6 months ago.

It is a lot worse when they're as tiny as yours, though. She'll soon grow out of getting as stuffy as she does now.

Good to hear they do handle colds better as they get older!

Thankfully, DD only had the cold for 2 weeks, and went back to sleeping in her cot with no arguments!

Thanks again for your help
