Asthmatic baby- should I let him sleep in his buggy?

DS2 is 8months and has cough/cold. This evening it has turned asthmatic, he's had inhaler etc and the wheeze has lessened but everytime we lie him down he coughs himself awake again. His cot is already propped up on books (can't prop it any higher as he would slide down to the bottom). If i put him in his buggy he seems to sleep better as he can be more upright - but would it be ok to let him sleep in the buggy all night??

I would say as long as he is warm , comforatble and you can keepan eye on him, it will be fine, better that he is comfortable than you follow "rules" iywmo

I think in the circs, yes. When DS's chest was bad in the night as a littly, he would spend the night propped right up on my pillows next to me which worked well (had my arm round him, and our pillows pushed tight together, him in sleeping bag and on top of duvet)- so perhaps, if you don't mind co-sleeping, you could leave him in the buggy till you go to bed, and then take him with you ?

We find a Karvol diffuser works well too

I'd not let one of mine sleep all night in the buggy. I'm sure I've read somewhere about a child getting tangled in the straps and hanging themselves

Also, far more likely they'd escape! but then mine were / are terrible fidgets

I'd have him in the bed next to me as per cmotdibbler's suggestions

hope you both get some sleep

I agree that you would have to be carefull withteh straps - make them tight enough that he can't become tangled in them.

TPH I used to use towels under the matress as you can prop the head and keep the legs flat - stops them slipping - but TbH he shoudl be at the bottom of the cot.

Put him at the bottom of the cot, a damp flannel on his radiator with afew drops of something like karvol or olbas oil, keep inhalors topped up and room not too hot(easy in this weather!)

dd1 used to sleep in her buggy sometimes when she had a cold ( she is asthmatic too, and it was the only place where she wasn't kept awake with a persistent cough), but dh and I would take it in turns to sit up with her, because I didn't like the idea of her in there unsupervised.

We tried to get her to sleep inm our bed, but she has only just taken to the idea of co-sleeping - at nearly 3!

IME, even when they are at the bottom of the cot, propping up the head isn't enough. Sitting up was the only way dd would be able to stop coughing.

Also if he is asthmatic I would be careful about using Karvol or Olbas oil, soem asthamtics have problems with them.

Good luck
