I think DD(11) has chillblains. How do I treat them?

Does it warrant a trip to GPs?

She has 3 toes that look quite inflamed, sore and itchy.

Does anyone know how I can treat her toes, at the moment I am putting on sudo cream, although its not really helping to get rid of the inflammation it does help with the itching. She has had them since Christmas.

TIA

If you are into alternative therapies then the homeopathic 'Apis Mel' is definately recommended. I used to suffer AWFUL chillblains as a child, one course of Apis Mel and I have never had them again!

I had that and it lasted quite a while. Sudocrem definitely helped with the itching. I found soaking in a very warm bath helped or soaking feet in v warm water. Not hot though.

Keep her toes really really warm at all times, and the should go in about a week.

DD2 has had them this year - but she will insist on walking around barefoot regardless of the temperature! She's gone to bed in socks tonight, I don't want her to get any more! I had them as a child and I know how horrible they are.

I always used Weleda Frost Cream. It was very soothing and the chilblains soon went away.

I would get dc to the gp - it may be chill blains, but it actually sounds very much like a couple of other things aswell.

Ivykaty44, what else do you think it could be? TBH I have never seen a chilblain so I have no idea really what they look like.

I actually thought at first she had corns and was quite upset as I spend a fortune on properly fitted shoes. But at times her toes are bright red, then they change into a browny colour. She has almost blister like spots covering the top/middle part of her toes.
They are also painful to touch.

I really don't know - I actually have a particular type of eczema on my feet and it is red and itchy and painful to touch, with small little blisters, it isn't chil blians though!

I went to the gp as I was convinced it was athletes foot - so just to make sure your dd has the correct treatment in the nicest possible way i would get her to the gp and get them to decide.

Buy her a really good pair of furry boots. I had chilblains every year as a child for a while and every year after that, my Mum conned me into spending my birthday money in November on a pair of furry boots. The only real cure for chilblains is not to get properly cold in the first place so you don't get them. But yes, keep warm, don't pick them, put something with a bit of local anaesthetic like Lanacane or Germolene on them to help with the not picking and moisturise a lot with something really oily like Eucerin Junior.

And FWIW, that sounds exactly like chilblains to me.

Can anybody shine any light on this for me? My daughter has this what likes a bruise underneath her toe and slightly swollen. Shes said that she’s not banged or bumped it but it’s been like this for a few days. She says it’s sore when she presses it. Im struggling to get her in the doctors. Ive been reading up about chilblains and wondering if it could be that. Thanks in advance
