ANOTHER question about MMR, sorry... reaction going on for ages...

My DS had MMR 11 days ago. Since then he has had the usual- fever, been sick, run down etc. I am just a bit bothered because although his temperature has past and he has not vomited for days he is still very pale, farting a lot and grumpy.

Has anyone else experienced reactions going on longer than usual...? I have searched on message boards here but can't find anything relevant.

If you don't agree with MMR please feel free not to post here. Thanks

I seem to remember my dd's reaction going on for a good while - at least a week. It is really worrying at the time but she was fine afterwards. Hope your little one is soon back to normal.

Presume you are aware that the effect of MMR kicks in between 7-10 days approx.

Sounds like your poor LO still suffering from "Immune response" that you get in the first 24-48 hrs,and are now in the period of the MMR "reaction". most people get a relief of symptoms albeit brief in between.

He may have a virus which is running in conjunction, as the vomiting although not unheard of,is more unusual IME??

(isn't it a shame,I get "scared" to answer these threads now,due to the attacks lately!)

my sons reactions lasted much longer than a couple of weeks but i suspect you do not want to hear from me.ds2 was pale, grumpy, farty and listless for several weeks.

can i suggest that if stomach problems persist then you go back to the doctor. i would also keep an eye out for any changes in his food choices.
but really do feel free to ignore me. i won't be offended.

singalongamumum · 03/02/2009 16:34

Thanks for replying. No, Pag, I'm pleased to hear from you- it's reassuring to know he's not the only one. What do you mean about changes in food choices?

Thanks Sawyer, I did wonder re tummy bug and thought it may slow down his MMR recovery. I did go to Dr.s last week when he was very poorly, now it's nothing terrible, just ongoing run down-ness really.

OK, Pag- I've just read your other posts re vaccinations so now I see why you said I may not want to hear from you! But I have read your posts carefully and would say I think I understand your motives re vaccination for your children. I just didn't want this thread to turn into another raging debate! I'm just seeking practical advice so if you have any I'd be glad to hear it.

yes. All I would suggest is that he is probably - almost certainly just havingthe usual reaction to the vaccination and will be perfectly fine in a short time.

If he seems to have any kind of changes in his food choices or starts to show any restriction, cravings, constipation or odd poos then come back and find me as changing his diet may be a good idea.

In the meantime I would suggest a multi vitamin to help his immune system and vit A to help with the measles bit of the MMR A decent health food shop will be able to help.

But as I said - Ia m sure he will be back to normal in a day or two

singalongamumum · 04/02/2009 12:56

Thanks pag, I have actually been to the Dr again today as he has a swollen lymph gland on his neck. Off to buy multivits today for his little body... he isn't eating much at all...

without going into detail, my son was ill for ten weeks after the MMR. In the end I went to a homeopath who gave him a anti-dote to reverse the damage done by the MMR. He went all night with a very high temp, we were told not to use any fever suppressants (as fever is the bodys way of getting rid of the disease).

Our little boy woke up after the worst night we ever had, fully well from the obvious symptoms. He has since developed other issues.

I just wish they told me they where injecting mercury, and other poisons into my precious baby to make him safe, funny how they did not want me to eat to much tuna because of mercury, but then they shot him up well past the saftey limit.

Did you see that study that questioned parents of those who get single jabs, well over 28,000 of the parents had a job in the medical field. Funny that!

thehairybabysmum · 04/02/2009 14:08

My DS2 had his last month and the nurse said he could show some symptoms for 3-4 weeks as it is a live virus.

I htink she said the mumps part of it can give them a slight off colourness after 3 weeks.

Did notice a slight rash on ds2 last night although he is fine in himself. (forgot to check it this am must remeber to have a loook tonight)

pagwatch · 04/02/2009 17:38

oh Singalong.
I hope he feels better soon....

duchesse · 04/02/2009 17:49

My son was pale, grumpy, excema-riddled, listless, farty and had runny poo for about five years after his MMR. Which was fun. Needless to say he has not yet had a booster.

singalongamumum · 07/02/2009 08:46

Pag Just wanted to say thanks for the multivit tip. Within 12 hours he had more colour in his cheeks and is now back to the full cheeky chappy we know and love! I am I didn't think of it myself, but I guess that's what mumsnet is for!

Thanks everyone else for the reassurance.
