Any doctor types about - especially Anaesthetists?

DD is 3.2, and is due to have an MRI scan on Wednesday. She needs a general anaesthetic for this, as she needs to lay still for 30 minutes, and it is very noisy.

There is a virus going about, and for the last 3 days she has had a temperature of 39.5-40.8. Other than this, she is not unwell, although she is feeling pretty grotty. She does have some clear snot, but no other signs of infection, as such.

Is it likely that they will refuse to do the scan because of this if she still has a fever on Wednesday?

If she hasn't got a fever any more, would they go ahead or refuse because her fever was so recent?

I am a bit unsure because I know they won't operate if a child is unwell, but she is only having the anaesthetic to keep her still, not to have an operation.

I obviously realise that an anaesthetic is an anaesthetic, but does it make a difference that it isn't to operate?

TIA

Oh I was afraid someone would say that, Yorkiegirl

I am 29 weeks pregnant, so getting worried that her MRI will be postponed forever because of circumstances, and desperately want some answers so that we can get her the help she needs.

If she still has a fever it's unlikely to go ahead, if not it depends on urgency of the scan and how she is on the day. If in doubt go in anyway, and let the Anaesthetist assess her for themselves.

(BEaTS DH, I am an anaesthetist.)

Thank you, I appreciate that. I hope that the fever comes down quickly, because other than that there doesn't appear to be anything wrong. She is quite chirpy, and her temp is very up and down. Down all day today, but suddenly went up again tonight.

Did DD's MRI scan go ahead?

DH wanted to know, he is a very caring doctor.

Very snowed in bump!

Oh thank you BEaTS & BEaTS' DH!

Anaesthetist was lovely, and decided that as she was otherwise well the fever was no problem, as it had come down by Wedsnesday.

She was very frightened when she saw a little boy with Ametop on his hand, so talking to the Anaesthetist was a bit tricky.

BUT unfortunately just before she was going to go down for her scan, the scanner broke . So 5.5 hours of starvation and lots of hanging around for nothing.

We just have to wait now for another appointment, and hope it doesn't clash with the arrival of DC3

Thank you so much for asking, it has really made me feel a bit better.

Oh no.

Hope the new appointment comes through soon, and that she is feeling better.
