birthmark - when is it a medical concern?

my son has 2 marks on his left arm - strawberry pinkish red, sometimes brighter than at other times. Its not raised as such, but sometimes doesnt look completely flat.
One is about 2cm by 1.5cm and the other smaller.
They havent faded at all since he was born and he asks me a lot about them.
Does he need to see a doctor about them? My gps are a bit useless so i dont feel too good about seeing them about non-urgent matters

What do you need to know about birthmarks/and when are they a concern

thankyou

I'm not sure how old your DS is but my DD had a large birth mark on the back of one thigh. It looked very much like a pinky/purple bruise. By yhr time she was 3 it had almost gone. She's 8 now and I can feel it (slightly raised) but it is 99% invisible compared to how it was.

I think it is only a problem when your DS says it is. If it doesn't fade (which I'm sure it will) and he is concerned when he gets older, say in his teens, thwn I would seek advice re. removal.

Ds2 had something similar on his back which had completely disappeared by the time he was 4.

Ds3 also has one where his moustache would be - lots of medics express concern about whether it will grow and block a nostril but it has never grown since he was born.

Consultant who saw ds1 about his snotty nose noticed ds3 asleep in pushchair and put the fear of god in me by saying that when they are in the 'beard area' they can also occur in the throat and if ds3 ever sounded like he was having difficulty breathing, go straight to a & e

Needless to say, he's never had any prob - I would be inclined not to worry Vannah, I think they are not uncommon.
