Is 5.4 yo not a bit young to be losing 1st milk tooth?

DD sucks her finger and I'm not sure if that is what is making one of her front teeth wobbly. Isn't she a bit young to be losing milk teeth or should I warn the tooth fairies?

It's hard to remember now as my dd is 13, but I'm not sure she was even 5 when she lost her first milk tooth, so I think your dd is probably about average.

Shitemum · 29/01/2009 00:41

thanks, I thought 6 or 7 was more like it...

I don't think so, mine and most of their friends lost their first teeth at this age.

Sazisi · 29/01/2009 01:15

DD1 lost her first aged 5 and 7 months (I know because it was just after DD2 was born )

Sazisi · 29/01/2009 01:16

Oh, meant to say they can wobble for months

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/01/2009 01:20

I lost my first on my 5th birthday.

Ds lost two of his at 5 years and 8 months, so not a huge difference.

His friend was not even 5, and the dentist was fine with that. Her front top ones have come out now at the grand old age of 6 years and around 2 months.

lory · 29/01/2009 06:50

DS1 is 5,5y and has lost 6. Started losing them when he was 4.5. But don't ask me if it is normal because I started a thread with the same concern as yours!

Shitemum · 29/01/2009 09:39

thanks, am reassured. Seems there is quite a big age range for losing the first one. She didnt get any teeth till about 9 or 10 mo tho so the theory of getting them early and losing them early doesnt fit her.

my ds lost his around this age,he's just 6 and has already lost his two front teeth

duchesse · 29/01/2009 09:46

I knew a child who started losing hers at 3.5. She was one of those children who don't stay children for long though, iyswim (fully grown at 11). I shouldn't have thought 5 and a bit was out of the ordinary.

CountessDracula · 29/01/2009 09:47

dd lost hers at this sort of age - both the bottom front ones. Then the next ones started at 6.3 and she has lost another 2

spininasugar - my dd1 is five next month and has a wobbly tooth. I told my mum who looked in her diary and apparently I lost my first tooth before my first birthday. I never had a dummy or sucked my fingers, neither does dd1.

belgo · 29/01/2009 12:06

my fifth birthday I mean!

really - is that the way to stop children sucking their thumbs then?

1805 · 03/02/2009 22:20

Now I'M worried. My DS is 6y 8m and hasn't even got a wobbler! He got his 1st tooth age 3m.

BCNS · 03/02/2009 22:32

not that i know of.. dd (5.8) has just lost her fourth milk tooth and 2 more are starting to wobble..

same with my ds's don't worry

CarryOnUpTheLiffey · 03/02/2009 22:36

My dd lost her first tooth 3 months before her 6th birthday.
