Where are they if over his belly chest back prob chicken pox

My dd started with 10 by the following night we stopped counting at 100 but she was really bad couldn't sleep all night at one stage she had so many on her bum wanted her nappy changed every 5 mins

If hands and feet its hand foot and mouth which are alot smaller than chicken pox

Stock up on priton, my dd wouldn't let me put calamine lotion on but loved the cream

well, they come up pretty fast. ds1 had one or 2 spots one morning, and about 20-30 by that evening.

they are fairly big, reddish, can be blistery on top.

littlefrog · 28/01/2009 20:14

DS has it. First spots on Fri (2). No more till Monday. Then a batch on Tuesday, but lots of them are tiny ones, more like little pimples, and aren't changing. So it sounds like it could be? Depends on where they are...

EldonAve · 28/01/2009 20:14

they are on his tum, back and a few on the neck
he has a mild fever

last time I thought the kids had CPox it ended up just being an eczema related rash (poss washing powder related)

Chicken pox isn't like pimples, they are more blister like

hand, foot and mouth more like pimples

PlumBumMum · 28/01/2009 20:19

Eldonave sound like chicken pox, my dd had them in her hair, on her face everywhere and then the poor wee mite got hand foot and mouth at same time
They relly spring up fast

Although dd1 had them when she was 2 also and had about 30 at most didn't even itch

Poor dd2 got a dose for everyone

PlumBumMum · 28/01/2009 20:20

*really

DS3 had 3 last Sunday morning, then no more until Monday night, now covered in them, but mainly in his nappy area (poor thing), don't seem to bother him, but I feel for him-he's 14 months old.

EldonAve · 28/01/2009 20:25

Thanks, I'm hoping it won't be
If there are no more in the morning are we safe?

We are having a big birthday party at the weekend

Not safe until they scab over but He has also been contagious 10 days before they came out, my ds had them at halloween and we went ahead with party as everyone coming had been in contact with him days before spots appeared

nigglewiggle · 28/01/2009 20:28

In my very recent experience they quickly (within 12 hours) become blisters and aren't itchy at first. They come in crops and start on chest and back and gradually spread out.

The first blister-spot I saw was unmistakeable. HTH

EldonAve · 28/01/2009 20:29

I would just need to call everyone and warn them esp if they are bringing dinky babies

Yeap you will be surprised though a mum at school wished she had knew my 2 had them and she would have came for a visit as she wanted to get them over and done with

nigglewiggle · 28/01/2009 20:37

I took my DD1 to sister's house so that her two could make sure they were exposed. Her friend came with her child too. There is sense in it, because they tend to get a milder dose the younger they are. Not a great idea for the under 1's though.

This seems to be true off DD1's experience. She is nearly 3 and only had about 100 spots. It started on Thurs and was all scabbed over by Monday night. Apparently you can expect a day of illness for every year you have been alive. My DH had it at 21 and he recalls it with horror. The spots get everywhere!

Thanks all, time will tell I suppose

Aargh, more spots this morning
Small but fluid filled

OP posts:
nigglewiggle · 29/01/2009 09:06

Sounds rather like it although DD's first spots were quite big. About 0.5cm+ diameter. Very raised blister of clear fluid in the middle and a red area around that.

If it is CP then I found a combination of Calamine cream and baths in Bicaronate of Soda helped. Also keepeing them cool reduces the itch.

Thanks, I've kept him off nursery
