DS1, 5.5y, just lost his 6th (yes SIX) tooth 10 minutes ago. I have to book an appointment with the dentist, but we just moved to Barcelona ( not even a week ago), and I have to find one I can trust.

Meanwhile, please , can anyone help ? Any dentist? Aren?t 6 teeth just too much? Did it happen to your DC?

We brush teeth twice a day, have very little sweets, and when we went to the dentist a year ago no cavities.
Many many thanks
, Lory

Oh you must be so worried.
I can't advise you but I hope someone sees this, we do have a few dental experts on here

My dd did this. Her baby teeth were v early (16 wks) and then her adult teeth started coming v early also.
She has "crowded mouth" and is having a fixed brace fitted this yr, she is now 8.

No cavities though, her teeth are really strong (not sure if that's the best description ) but just too many of them in a little mouth.

Are the adult ones coming through in their place? Are he roots really short when the tooth comes out? It is rather early to have lost that many but I wouldn't worry. The ages given are averages, so that means some lost them then, some earlier and some later. Did his baby teeth come through earlier than the "usual" dats?

Thank you
He already has 3 adults teeth growing (he lost his first a year ago), one was even coming out in the back while the baby tooth was still there (moving but not falling), so he had a ?double line? . He lost one today and one 6 days ago, so big hole of course, and no sign of the new tooth for the one he lost 2 months ago.

It seems to me that they are almost no roots at all, just a tiny tiny pick
As a baby, they came through around 6 months, so average, not early.

Is I'm not sure what's worrying you - isn't it quite usual to have lost teeth by this age? AM I missing something?

lory · 28/01/2009 20:51

usually you start losing the first around 6, he is 5.5 and has lost 6. Did your children lose them that early too?

I think it varies a lot - but if they are coming out and the adult teeth are growing I don't see why all this happening early is such a worry for you - as I said, am I missing something?

thisisyesterday · 28/01/2009 21:19

agree with seeker. these things do vary a lot. baby teeth don't have huge roots or anything, they're jut little things.

as long as his adult teeth are coming through and look nice and healthy I am sure there really is nothing to worry about.

ok, so nothing to worry about then. Feel better! Being in a new city, still in the middle of paper work, 2 teeth in one week, far from my GP and dentist, I guess I overreacted.

Not over-reacting at all. It is natural to be concerned when they appear to be doing something different to the text books. The reason I asked about the roots is because the baby teeth have fairly long roots initially but these get resorbed (ie broken down) by the natural expoliation process meaning they have very little to hold them in hence they become loose and fall out, so if the lost teeth seem to have extrmely short roots that would indicate they are coming out naturally and all is fine, just a tad earlier than others. There can be quite a gap between the baby teeth falling out and the adult one coming through.

thanks Comeoveneer, I didn't know about the roots resorbing!
