Tell me about Chicken Pox please

A friend stopped by on Friday with her ds (15mths) who had one blistery spot on his bum but nothing else symptom wise, although 8 kids were off his nursery with chicken pox.

I said to my friend to still visit us as I'd rather dd (3.7) caught it when I was prepared for it and while she was still young enough to forget it.

DD has been a bit out of sorts with a cold over the weekend and did not go to playgroup today or yesterday as she was not well, in her words.

This evening I lifted her top and her torso has what looks like a heat rash. Does chidken pox start like this? I thought it was more like individual blistery spots. Maybe these rash type spots will develop? in which case, I'm thinking she's going to get it bad?

Just can't recall what it was like with ds (15) and I only recall the horrible itching when I was 11

Blistery spots over body, but if she has a temp this could be reason for heat rash

You can get cold like symptoms before cchicken pox as this is how they spread

thisisyesterday · 27/01/2009 19:51

no, it doesn't start like that IME.
it'll be big individual blistery spots

differentID · 27/01/2009 19:57

does it look lik ethat Klaw?

Klaw · 27/01/2009 20:06

more like this atm.... and as we only saw potentialy infectious child on Friday, surely that's too soon for it to be from him?

I'd get it checked out at the docs tbh. What's her appetite like?

Klaw · 27/01/2009 20:18

Yesterday, she hardly ate or drank anything, Today has eaten a bit more, and had plenty juice. But spots only been noticed today. Dp dressed her this morning as I was away at meeting.

Friend has confirmed that her son never got any more spots, so either it was a nappy spot or he had it REALLY mild. Still she couldn't have got it from him anyway, it's too soon.

Currently eating a choc bourbon and saying she's still hungry....

lol. Get her checked over, but don't stress too much at the moment.

Agree that chicken pox start as blistery spots on body

and spread very quickly in DD1's case

DD2 has developed a rash following a bout of cold/fever

GP said it was viral and rash was just a symptom

I'd get her checked out anyway though

Hope she's better soon

klaw when my gs got chicken pox ,it started with just three spots the day we arrived in majorca ! over the next couple of days they spread all over his body ,they dont look like normal spots and i think they have a little head on them ,they can spread all over the body, even to the scalp.I used to give hi cool baths and then spread calamine lotion all over him to try and stop him scratching, but he was fine in himself apart from the very first night and by the time we went home a week later they had nearly gone.

mummylin2495 · 27/01/2009 21:01

have a look at this

4andnotout · 27/01/2009 21:09

Hi Klaw
DD2 got the pox 1st out of my lot, and she had a light mark in her groin which over a few hours developed into a blister. The blisters then came up over a few days, dd3 was completely different and just woke up smothered in spots when it was her turn. HTH

Klaw · 28/01/2009 12:11

Well no development in the rash so I suspect that DD just has a viral rash after all that I really wanted it to be CP so that we get it over with....

She was off her food on Monday and felt hot to touch on the forehead but nothing major. She's been sniffly over the weekend. Appetite is improved yesterday and today but the rash only turned up yesterday evening. It has not changed overnight, and she is not really out of sorts so no worries there.

Dr Klaw proclaims it's viral.

Prescribes lots of cuddles
