Did you watch Horizon on BBC 1 tonight about eating patterns?

Interesting programme which flagged up some 'concerns' I already had about my three year old son. I am one of those people who love food and comfort eat, but I try to control it otherwise I could eat all day and be the size of an elephant. My son, I've noticed, also likes to eat for reasons other than hunger - for example if he is bored or likes to eat when sitting down to watch a DVD. I have no problem with this, he is very slim anyway, and I thought the idea at this age, was to get them to eat as much as possible. But, this programme made me think, is he devoloping bad eating habits (which he may have picked up from me - either by example or genetically) by eating when he is not actually hungry?

He eats healthily by the way, (although that's not really the point) occassional treats but most snacks are fruit, veg, or Organix snacks.

i watched it - was fascinated. I can never seem to put weight on, though i eat like a - well, greedy fat person... DH eats less than me and is well overweight

I would LOVE to be you. I would literally scoff my face all day. I'm a size 12 and I don't diet as such so I'm ok, but if I do overeat excessively then I put on weight in no time.

'tisn't that much fun in reality. Too many comments from people who have no business saying anythin, "oooh you need to put a bit of weight on" - oh really? gosh i never knew.
I have another theory that it has something to do with your blood group as well as your BMR.

BTW, i do scoff my face

and good on ya for not dieting - it makes you fat lol!

i was thoroughly depressed watching it, i fear the damage may already have been done for me...

Hi gigglewitch, I'm just the same as you; tiny and cannot put on weight. People used to regularly say to me that I must have an eating disorder (which I definitely don't) but now I've had two children I stop them short with a comment about how an undernourished body isn't fertile. What's the most hurtful comment you've had about your size? It seems it's ok to be mean to thin people but not fat ones. Can't the world see people for people?

i had to lol at the old ladies - friends of my mums - who patted me on the arm at 6 mths pg and said "nice to see you putting a bit of weight on luv"
