Bad Nappy Rash

sunshineandshowers · 25/01/2009 20:33

DS 18 months has had bad nappy rash for weeks/even months now. I am not sure if it is thrush. It is raised, red and rough and even goes down the top of his thighs.

I have done some research and it seems there are many things I can try...

Cotton wool and water
Bepanthen
Egg White
Nappy free
Canestan
Morhulin
Cloth nappies

Is there anything else I can try?

Also, my husband went to Boots today to get some Canestan and the Pharmasist said DS was too young for Canestan and just to use Sudocrem. I have read that sudocrem can make thrush work (if he has thrush). Who is right?

Thanks for any help.

i would take him to the GP. it sounds like it could be thrush but you may need canesten to be prescribed- it comes in different strenghts

don't use sudocrem on sore red skin, it can be a bit burning. bepanthen is better.

you CAN use canesten on a babies bum.

nappy free time is very good for any nappy rash.

It might be a bacterial infection and thus need a different cream or even antibiotics (my dd2 had this at about 8 months). go to your GP.

hope this helps.

My DS had this loads of times poor mites.

I just had as much nappy free time as possible and zinc and castor oil cream was fantastic!

Thanks all.

I have made GP app. Just so I can identify what it is.

Do I get Bepanthen and Zinc and Castor Oil from chemist/ Boots?

Just using water and nappy free (apres poo) today.

My baby had nappy rash from she was born quite dad for about four weeks tried so many things only thing that worked was vaseline mixed with orabase (not sure of spelling) advised by paediatric ward now her bottom is better just use vaseline unbelievable but it works

Ask GP to take a swab. If it turns out to not be bacterial here are some good things:

rooibos tea
emu oil
grapefruit seed extract
egg white
morhulin
conotrane
orabase
manuka honey

if none of those work you can ask for these on prescription

nystan
aveeno
sprilon
