Calpol use and teething

DD (8.5mths) is cutting her first teeth. She is also just finishing a cold. She's been a bit grumpy on and off. I have given her one dose of calpol before bed about 5 nights running (apart from last night). That is the only does she is having each day. Apart from one night when she woke for about an hr around 8pm, she has been sleeping fine but has been a bit off her food compared to normal.

Is it ok to continue with giving her a dose before bedtime until her teeth come through if she's grumpy around bedtime?

I'd say if it helps then fine. I used calpol with all three of mine when they were teething if they were unsettled by it.

I remember how painful getting my wisdom teeth through was...I would have never survived without painkillers.

Thanks. I won't give it to her tonight unless she seems in pain before bedtime.

I wouldn't but then i hardly ever give calpol - try to avoid it if at all possible. frequent use of it in childhood can make it harder for children's natural painkillers to work as they grow up.

Then what do you do if they are crying in pain and can't sleep?

um...give them calpol! I said i hardly ever give it, not I never give it. They get it if they're in pain but not if they're just a bit uncomfortable or have a bit of a temp.

Have you tried any teething powders as well

pudding25 · 26/01/2009 21:46

Need to get some powders. Got some ambesol which seems to be good too. She was fine today so no calpol!
