18MONTH OLD HAS REALLY SMELLY BREATH????

She hates me brushing her teeth so i wrap a towel around her and do it with her screaming the house down. I brush them everymorning. And sometimes at night let her chew on her tooth brush with tooth paste on it.

But she has really bad breath. When she wakes up from her nap her breath is really bad. She does not drink muchfluids, probably 1-1 and a half bigger size advent cups per day.

Any ideas why her breath is smelly?

sorry fluid would be 200 - 250 ml per day...

Does she always have it or just at the moment?. Both mine get bad breath when poorly or teething

cantpickyourfamily · 23/01/2009 19:05

she has had it for a few months really. but then she always seems to be teething or ill.

My 18mo has really smelly breath, I try my hardest to brush his teeth, and he drinks loads of water as well.

I think it might be down to teething???

Not sure whether this would apply if it's been ages but dd has horribly bad breath if she has tonsillitus. Maybe worth asking the doctor to look in her throat?

cantpickyourfamily · 23/01/2009 19:26

dd also had tonsillitus twice so maybe it is that and the teething as is always teething.

I was just worried it is because I do not brush her teeth enough as it is such hard work...

Ds is 2.4, we brush he's teeth properly at night and let him do it himself in the morning, if his ill he's breath still stinks. Dd is 10 mo she's only got 2 teeth which i dont brush

I really wouldn't worry that it's lack of brushing, they're such buggers to pin down at that age!
I'd put it down to teething, keep brushing he's teeth he'll get used to it, DS pretty much allows it now

My daughter always gets smelly breath when she is constipated, a very strange pong inded. So, as you say your DD isnt drinking much fluid, try getting her to sip water more often during the day, and see if there is an improvement.
