18 mths with a limp A&E or not????

Hi just posting here for reassurance and or advice, dd2 is 18 mths and V active (she's a climber).

This morning I noticed that she was walking with a slight limp when I got here out of her highchair at breakfast time (dh had supervised to that point ) she took a few minutes and it seemed to settle down.

Went out to a group this morning she's been running around bouncing on trampolie and doing all the stuff she normally does.

In her car seat for quite a while on the way home 1/2 an hour as I had to check my parents house (they're away). When I got her out she seemed to be in pain and limping again.

Settled her with lunch and the same problem after getting her out of the highchair.

I've had a good feel and no obvious bruise rash cut or swelling with what seesm to me like Full range of movement

Summary is she seems uncomfortable sitting and walking with a limp issues with weight bearing( particularly when she's been sitting) / slightly turned out L foot. Is this an A&E job or should I just see if it settles????

(DD1 never did anything like this she's the delicate little flower!!)

Thanks to anyone who can help!!!

I think I'd call my GP seeing as she's not had an accident nor is it an emergency.

I hope she's ok

If she isn't crying in pain and has been physically active inbetween then imo the gp.

What would you do if you were well, but had a pain in your leg, yet were still able to run and bounce on a trampoline? Take some pain killers, and if it persists, see your GP? Same with a kid. Give her some calpol, keep and eye on her, if you're still worried call your GP.

Hmmm not sure. My DD had a limp when she was about 2 for a week or so. We just left it and it went away...but it didn't bother her in the slightest and there was no apparent pain or discomfort.

I think it depends on how much pain she appears to be in. If it is not much then I don't think it warrants A&E - but GP/walk-in centre perhaps. A&E is really for more acute and lifethreatening injuries and illnesses.

Thank you guys I wasn't hopeful about the Gp given it's friday but I'll ry and make an appt now, if nothing else then i've tried.

Oh and as for the accident I just haven't witnessed one with DD2 there's just no telling...

I would take her to see your GP or go to a walk in centre.
She needs to be assessed if she's limping and the GP should see her this afternoon as an urgent extra.

plonker · 23/01/2009 14:06

I would take her tbh.

My dd walked with a limp for a spell (she was a little older than your dd though, she was 4). I thought that maybe she'd pulled a muscle, but couldn't see anything bruised/swollen/particularly obvious. It went on for a while and I took her to the walk in centre.

It turned out that she had irritable hip. This is where a virus settles around the hip and causes a limp (thats a v basic explanation - i couldn't grasp the longer one ).
All is ok and it isn't a problem, but it does re-occur after colds etc sometimes and because i know about it, I don't worry as much

Have phoned docs no appt but they will phone later,

I was of the wait and see camp but DH tends to panic (understatment of the year) although DD2 does have other health issues which may make her more prone to injuries so just wanted an objective view point thanks again.
