Ds is just 4 and consultant wants this doing next week
He didn't explain what happens or if we have to stay in
It's the first of many tests to see why his chest is still so bad even on max medication.
He's also got to have an Mri, and a bronchoscopy and have some lung function tests but not until after the results of the ph study.
Consultant is also thinking about tonsills and adinoids
I'm glad something is being done at long last but feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all

not the same but my ds2 whos in hospital as we speak at 9 weeks old is currently having a ph study. Normally they just go into hospital and they insert a thin tube up into their nostril. They then sent them to x ray just to check the tube is in the right place. they send you home and you have to do a chart as to what they are doing at what time i.e eating, sleeping etc and they send you home and you go back 24 hours later and they remove it.. my ds is poorley and is staying in

Won't he want to pull it out
It's to check for him refluxing into his lungs.

thats exactly why my ds has got it in!! Yes theoreticaly he can pull it out... it is stuck to face with tape and goes behind ear and tucked into clothes.... you could perhaps try getting your LO to wear gloves/socks over hands when asleep to stop pulling it? Not sure if that is possible?

Thanks for that info it's made me a little calmer.

also why dont you try to bribe him? I mean like when you do a star chart with a present at the end to get him to keep it in and not touch it? Maybe give him a star when you leave home, take star chart with you to hodp, one after igt goes in, one when you get home...maybe one how ever often you need it.. with a promise of a trip to toy shop when you leave hosp?

Ds struggled from day 1 and has been on asthma medication since he was 6 months. The last 4 months have been his worst he's on seretide 125 atrovent montelukast ventolin and daily antihistamine.
Over these 4 months he's had 5 courses of prednisolone and 3 of abs and 3 stays in hospital

ali, your ds sounds similar to mine (apart from age) ds1 had bad reflux and meds for it and ds2 was very snorty , snuffly fro birth and they kept telling me it was newborn mucus but i wasnt so sure, anyway got worse (will cut out the next 8 weeks!) and he has been stopping breathing and sounds blocked up but no mucus to be seen. Anyway paed said reflux was put on ranitadine and it helped breathing abit.. took him off it for ph study and his stats monitor dropped to 68 (oxygen) they wont do barium xray as they think he refluxing onto his lungs.... wondering if perhaps it isnt reflux? Dont know what else though? I didnt realise they could get asthma from birth? On that note i have another thread about my 2.6 ds1 who seems to have asthma...

alibobins · 21/01/2009 20:45

They just don't like to diagnose asthma till much older but treat it the same.

I know what you mean about meds when Ds is well he is very active but its hard to see him struggling on the sidelines.
We were there at dinner wonder if we crossed paths back there in 8 weeks.
