Have you given her any calpol or similar?

notnowbernard · 21/01/2009 13:24

If she has a temp, I'd say give Calpol and leave her in a vest and a nappy

A light, thin cotton sheet over her should be ok - but don't 'wrap her up'

bandgeek · 21/01/2009 13:25

She will be shivering because of the temperature. It's the body's way of trying to cools itself.

If you try a cool flannel and calpol or nurofen, this will bring her temp down and stop the shivering

smallorange · 21/01/2009 13:25

Take her temperature, if she has a temp give her calpol to bring it down, dress her lightly but put a cellular blanket over her and check her temp is falling.
If it doesn't fall, or it keeps rising, call NHS Direct for advice. They can talk you through various checks and give more (better) advice than I can.

Vest and nappy. A lukewarm flannel on the back of her neck and her forehead will help cool her.

Calpol or similar as paracetamol helps to lower tempersture.

The shivering is, I think, actually the body's way of getting even hotter. If you think about it, shivering is what happens when you are cold and need to get warmer. So don't wrap her up warmly because she will overheat. Monitor her temperature, give her some Calpol or similar to reduce the fever and let her wear just a vest maybe.

We had this with dd when she was about 4 months old, terrifying. I remember the A&E doctor (yes, we went to A&E) saying to me, 'Well do you shiver when you've got a temperature? Why would she be any different?'

Dd stopped shivering almost immediately after being given Calpol.
