Poor dd we were walking to the car when she tripped and fell, she didn't put her hands out to stop her fall and head butted the road , i scooped her up and put her in the car ,then i noticed the huge lump on her head .

I totaly panicked and took her back into school to see the nurse, the lump was getting bigger so we put an ice pack on it.

She seems ok now, no lose of memory etc..

Do i need to keep her awake late? if so how long for?

The school nurse said i could take her to A&E but she thinks she is ok.

Anyone?

How long should it take for swelling to go down, it's still looking ugly.

bump fpr you - DS (13mo) cracked his forehead on a table leg at the weekend and the bump that came up was horribly big but it went down fairly quickly. He has a bruise now but is ok, no concussion.

here are the signs of concussion to look out for but I think she will probably be ok. I wouldn't think you need to keep her awake beyond her normal bedtime - if he is going to demonstrate sleepiness she will do it before then.

oh poor thing!

a lump is good BTW.......not that it looks good, but I have had this with my children, and two of mine in particluar come up with egg-shaped lumps with bad bumps.

I have always been told that a lump coming out is better, and as long as they are not being continuously sick and no confusion nor loss of conciousness then they should be ok.

not a medic, just a mum, with experience with bumps.

watch her, if YOU are worried tho, then always take her to be checked out at A&E. YOU, being her mum, know her best, so follow your instincts here.

a word of warning, often when children sleep after a head bump then wake up again, they will vomit, usually this is nothing to worry about (so they told us at A&E!!)as it is just the body's reaction to shock and the digestive system shuts down in favour of the major organs. But look out for floppy type drowsiness, disorientation, confused talking etc

hope yr DD is OK - FWIW with mine I always check them during the night if they have had a severe bump

Thank you all for your advice, i kept her awake till 7.30pm and i checked her in the night. She's now gone to school with a lovely bruise and bump which she says she is taking to show and tell.
