My 2 year old won't take her medicine - any ideas?

My toddler has been given some antibiotic liquid medicine by the doctor but has refused to take it. She has a calcium supplement every day and takes that with no problem but has made it very clear she won't take the new medicine. It looks like milk and tastes a bit like flat lemonade and would probably go brilliantly in milkshake, but she's cows' milk intolerant and so can't have it like that. Any ideas gratefully received! Thank you.

In juice? in Petit Filou?

Am having same problem with toddler who took ANYTHING in milk, but won't drink milk post tonsillectomy!

Sounds like same AB...mine hates it too.

Have you used a spoon or syringe? I find that it's so much easier with the syringe, because you can shoot the medicine down their throat before they realise what you are up to.

Is she just two, or a bit older? Towards the upper end of the scale simple bribery can work...

Or could you do a banana milkshake (sliced banana, frozen, whizz up in blender with rice milk and a dash of vanilla extract) and put it in that?

I always used a syringe (without the needle, of course!) which you should be able to get from a chemist if you explain why you need it. Works a treat!

Play doctors - get 2 syringe things (I think I paid about 20p each at Boots a few years ago - really cheap), load one up with something for you and one with the meds for her. She goes first, toy med kit, takes temp etc and gives you your medicine. Then you swap over. If she is suspicious, try loading the first with a similar coloured drink she will take and do a dummy run!

You gotta get crafty with medicines

The syringe is a great way to do it though - less spills and fun to play doctors with toddlers.
