My first thought is virus.

You don't say how old she is or how high the temp is, but I would watch her carefully, try and make sure she drinks/sucks ice cubes or lollies, check temp regularly, and if she develops any of the symptoms you listed, call nmh direct.

HTH

It is always a worry when you aren't sure what is going on.

My DTDs suffer from something calle "Mesenteric Adenitis"...which basically means swollen glands in the tummy. It is somethign they get practically every time they get a cold or virus.

It can be very painful. Some children have ended up on teh operating table with suspected appendicitis...or in hospital on morphine to control the pain. There are no other symptoms though - other than the "virus" whcih is causing the other illness - which could be a simple cold - or even just a coldsore.

If it is something like this then ibuprofen would help as it is an anti-inflammatory

Sorry - had to go and cook lunch etc.

I agree with slightlymadscientist.

With all my children I always had a policy of watch and wait, calpol/nurofen, lots of sleep and fluids. I have gone to A&E a couple of times, but only when I felt I couldn't cope any more at home.

Does she have a rash, headache, sensitivity to light, headache?

I would second ibuprofen for relieving the temp. I would suspect, without v & d, the abdo pain is caused by the temperature. My two often get tummy aches as well as a temp in the beginning of something.

DS2 had something similar all last week. He had a tummy ache on Saturday and a temp of 38.9. He slept for 3 hours in the middle of the day despite dozing a fair part of the morning. Tummy ache went as soon as the ibuprofen kicked in (Calpol didn't work).

He was a lot better the next day and felt OK but temp was still 38 degrees and he was off school until Friday with it. Cold symptoms threatened but haven't amounted to much although he developed a bit of a cough when the temp wore off.

A lot of it about round here. I know several people with similar vague symptoms. Doctors have said to others that it is a virus.

I hope your DD feels better soon.
