broken tibia

anyone had a 7 yr old with broken tibia? How long does it take to heal and is it wise to book another holiday for next year now or should we wait. She's desperate to know that we're going again. It was a clean break with not screws/plates of any sort. Just a toe to hip cast. Any comments gratefully received - it's our first broken bone!!!!

ds badly broke his arm in early October- two ops with screws and opened up. he had the plaster off just before xmas. He can now just about straighten it. we go back for another xray next week - so hopefully will be sorted in another month? so 4 months in total - but it was very bad!

I had an appalling tibial plateau fracture last March, and I was on crutches for at least 6 months. But that was particularly bad -- I'd have thought for a straighforward mid-shaft fracture with no surgery or metalwork you'd be okay by the summer holidays.

it happened abroad and they were great, but still waiting for a NHS appointment over here so a little short on info at the moment. THanks for yours.

my ds (9) had the bone completely separate and it all had to be wired because of nerve damage. They had to do it again, so thats what has made the recovery longer. But now he has too much bone growing, and may need an op to remove some. But I've never ever heard of that before - I'm sure its worst case scenario!

DS broke his femur when he was 3, whilst on holiday. He was all fine and 100% mended in 7 weeks. Children's bones heal much more quickly than adults.

what Themoon said is true - the docs actually said to me 'look at that bone - it's growing like mad' - that was after a couple of weeks.
