ds2 8 weeks old has cradle cap thats getting worse. I blame myself as havent been able to wash his hair as often as i used to ds1. Ive been using detinox.. I know it doesnt hurt him but looks horrible and is mainly front of his head. I havent picked it at all but it starting to look red round the edges..

rubbing olive oil/baby oil onto it and leaving it on for a while before washing is supposed to help. You can also buy cradle cap cream which you apply onto it - I have seen it in Boots. If it starts to get redder take him to the doctor as it can get infected.

hello. i used aveeno cream on dd's head when 4m of combing with olive oil had made no difference whatsoever. the aveeno worked after only 4 days!

this is from the babycentre website:

There are several strategies you can try to gently remove the scales:

? regularly wash your baby's hair with a baby shampoo then loosen the flakes using a soft brush

? rub mild baby oil or olive oil into your baby's scalp, leave it for a while (even overnight if you want) then brush off the flakes, and clean the remaining oil off by shampooing with mild baby shampoo (NHS Direct 2008).

In severe cases where the cradle cap has become inflamed or infected, your doctor can prescribe an antifungal cream, such as ketoconazole 2 per cent cream (CKS 2004).

It's tempting to sit and pick at the cradle cap on your child's head, but try to resist, as doing so can leave sore patches that could become infected (NHS Direct 2008).

Cradle cap will eventually go away on its own, but talk to your doctor or health visitor if the condition persists, worsens, or spreads to your child's face or neck.

Are you using the Dentinox shampoo? That always made DS's cradle cap worse. The only thing that worked in the end was Boots own cradle cap cream. I put loads on a couple of hours before bath time then washed it out with plain water.
