Poor dd2 (20mths) has just chipped her front tooth!

Only a tiny chip but I can see it cracked right across halfway up. It was bleeding from behind so it did get a good knock on the tiled floor.

Will she loose it? Will it go black and die?

I know the dentists here in France won't do anythng about it but I just wondered what might happen. Neighbours 3 yr old broke front tooth in half and they told her as it was a first tooth just to wait until it fell out, but her tooth has gone a horrible colour.

I'm gutted, she had such cute little teeth. I know it sounds vain and I don't mean it like that I just feel a bit cross and sad about it.

I am not a dentist but I just answered about chipped teeth on a similar thread called 'fractured tooth'. If the tooth is bleeding, you might need to see a dentist.

Sorry, didn't see that thread from yesterday.

thanks...

Dd has had a broken front too before as a result of hitting it on the playground at school. It's her adult tooth too (hey ho).

The dentist built it back up very quickly with some special 'putty' stuff which is set with an ultraviolet light.

It looks perfect and appears to be very hardwearing and not at all noticable.

It didn't take long to fix and didn't hurt. She may have to have a cap later but we must wait until the tooth is fully grown through; so not for some years yet.

If it's a milk tooth they may not do all that, but check with the dentist. Most things seems fixable these days.

DS did a similar thing at age two, the dentist wouldn't touch it. He said it would either fall out itself or it would be okay and grind itself down eventually (but his was a chipped corner off the tooth rather than cracked all the way up).

It was fine and ground itself down, he's 6 1/2 now, still has the tooth and it looks good. Thank God! I hope your dd's is the same.
