I am on my own and I really need some help and advice please, (vomiting sorry if tmi)

I am phobic about vomiting, my dp who has always dealt with such illnesess is away.

Ds 4 has been vomiting since 3am and is still throwing up loads, but just yellow bile now, I am just giving him constant small sips of water is this the right thing to do?

Also I haven't eaten yet myself as I am terrified that I am going to get ill too, but I am bf my dd 10 months, and am starving, should I eat? If so, what?

Is it ok to wash the sicky clothes blankets at 30? Or does it need to be hotter?

Sorry for all the questions.

Small sips of water is the best thing along with wee ones- you should have some toast and loads of water, that way if it comes back up- t won't be so sore (trick from two horrendous pregnancies). A higher temperature for the washing machine would be better IMO. If LO continues to be sick all day I'd make a Doctor's appointment tomorrow. Lemonade can be good too to help you feel a bit less sick. The sugar may be helpful for your LO too. Good luck

small sips of water - yes, absolutely right. If you have any dioralyte sachets in give them.

eating yourself - yes, eat something - not because of the bfing so much as you will feel worse with anxiety if you've not eaten enough - just have something bland (guessing you've not got an appetite), toast or cereals.

Blankets - I would wash heavily soiled stuff at 60.

Re washing sicky clothes etc - if the material is cotton, I would go for at least 60. The hottest temperature the material can stand.

And yes, have some dry toast or something quite bland. With your DS - as much fluid as he wants because he could well get dehydrated with that much vomiting, but avoid milk and milk-products.

Thank you all, I feel so stupid, I just can't cope with sick at all, I am almost in tears with anxiety, but trying to hold it together for ds.

The blankets only have a tiny bit of sick on them, but one is a fleece one that I made for him, and I really don't think it will wash any hotter.

Water on its own is a bit of an emetic (i.e. can induce vomiting), so if you put some juice in there or have flat lemonade or coke (not diet btw) that would probably be better.

They always say to have a BRAT diet when you feel like this - Bananas, Rice, Apples (pureed perhaps) and Toast. I would add porridge made with mostly water to that list as well.

Anything with ginger in is also likely to help stop you feeling queasy (old pregnancy trick).

You must keep eating if you can.

BTW if the blankets are delicate, just hand wash them as soon as you can after they get sick on them, rubbing the fabric against itself, maybe even using bathroom soap. They will be fine.

Give him water on a teaspoon, ofteneven sips are too much. Our GP advised us to give a teaspoon of fluid every 30 minutes then gradually reduce the time between spoonfuls to 15 minutes until fluid is tolerated again.

Try to eat if you can, there is nothing worse than being sick on an empty stomach if you do happen to catch the bug.

Not sure if this helps, but porridge is a good liner for a sore stomach and I have always found it relaxing along with cammomile tea. And natural yoghurt is a good food to give a stomach that has been getting rid of all its food to put back good bacteria
