DD's adult teeth growing BEHIND her milk teeth? Is this common?

Two od DD's milk teeth fell out within 24 hours of each other.

In the gap, her two adult teeth are already well up but they seem to be set quite far back. I'm making an appointment at dentist for her (the regular check-up is not until April) but I'd like to know if this is common and will she need dental correction treatment later on?

DS1 and 2 have both had this.

With DS1 it did mean that his although his adult teeth moved into the gaps incredibly quickly, they were a bit crooked and he had to see an orthodontist and have braces.

With DS2 it happened with one tooth, but we spotted it early enough. The dentist advised him to try and get the baby tooth out by himself, otherwise he would have to extract it. Thankfully his have grown through OK and are not crooked.

This happened with my son's canines. I think seeing a dentist is wise- the chances are the adult teeth (especially if they're her incisors) will move forwards, but my son's canines didn't and he ended up with two sets for a while. All sorted out now.

Thanks.

Her teeth (adult ones) do seem quite far back and I really want to do the right thing here. My bottom teeth were left to their own devices and I look like a right snagglegob now. I don't want to chance it with hers.

Great to know it happens to others as well. I'd never seen/heard of this before.

Yes it is common. Once the baby teeth are out the adult ones tend to move forward quite quickly. SOmetimmesa they align fine sometimes they are a bit crooked and may need braces (depends on how severe and how much you are bothered by it).

COV, while you're aroudn may I ask you something?

Dd is 7.8 and is complaining that 2 of her molars are hurting (one on each side) particularly when she eats.

Is this normal at her age - I thought molars came out somewhat later (not that I even remember mine coming out)

My DS has never had a gap! His baby teeth didnt come through till his adult teeth pushed them out and then the adult teeth straigtened up nicely! One milk tooth did have to be pulled out at dentist though but it was more for practical reasons than problems!

Ta COV.

Reassuring.

Dentist appt. booked for next week so he can have a good gander at their current position and then keep an eye on them for her.
