how often do you take your dd/ds to be weighed if they are >12months old?

My ds is now 16 months, I haven't had her weighed in over 6 months! I got fed up with taking her only to be told as usual that she hadn't gained much weight and stayed below the 2nd centile. I got to the stage where I couldn't see the point in getting her weighed, it only served to worry me when I saw all the lovely chubby babes in the clinic. She doesn't eat very much and yesterday when I got her out of the bath I noticed just how skinny she is. Her ribs stick out, she has virtually no bottom, and a tiny little belly. She is otherwise well, full of beans, always on the go (although not walking yet)and I have no worries about her general development. Any one else with really skinny babies? Is it normal for a 16month old to look really scrawny?
I think i may bite the bullet and get her weighed next week.

my three always looked like this

I stopped taking them about the same as you
except with gecko....
I stopped taking her at about 9 months cause I was gettin sick of the weaning talks that were held at the same time telling you to pour baby rice down your 4 momth old baby by leaning them back a little

I haven't had my ds weighed since his 8 month check but he looks fine to me, normal toddler chubbiness and he's also full of beans..... can you weigh your ds at home on the scales with you holding him. It's probably not as accurate as the scales the hv has but it might put your mind at ease. I've always gone on the theory that if they're full of energy then they're fine and perhaps your ds is just going to be a skinny lad all his life. What are the rest of your family like? Are they all skinny too? It could just be his body shape.

Good idea HeadFairy. just realised I typed ds (when I meant dd!) I will try and put her on the scales at home. I was skinny when I was younger but quite chubby as a toddler, and I'm certainly not skinny now.Husband was the same I think. I was just shocked yesterday when she was standing up naked after her bath how skinny she looked!

Never after dc4 reached 12mths because my other 3 were all tiny and i got fed up with them not following lines on a poxy chart. They are all what they are, healthy happy children.

dd isnt isnt skinny but I stopped taking her at bout 7 months. I took her when she was 1 but I dont plan to go back. I think by now I can tell from her behaviour if something was wrong so I dont really see the point.

My friends dd is the same aage as mine (14months) and is a lot slimmer than dd. I was shocked at seeing the difference in them the other day when she was changing her. But her daughter is perfectly healthy, full of energy and smiles. She just has a different frame to my dd, I suspect her dd will have one of them figures to die for and my dd will inherit my broad frame - poor kid [grin

oops Jen, apologies to your dd I'd definitely try weighing her on your scales at home first (of course this does mean weighing yourself - something I always try to avoid doing to avoid incredulous shock "I'm how heavy???????? ) and then if she's really a long way below what the charts say she should be then perhaps a trip to the hv, but I agree with the others, those charts are the devils work. DS dropped off the bottom of them when he was born and I was hassled to top up with formula. I stuck to my guns because he was still ok (but admittedly small) on the WHO bf growth charts. I'm glad I stuck to my guns because he's totally caught up now (I assume because I never weigh him) but he's got a little belly, everything else looks in proportion, he goes in and out in the right places and he's got tons of energy.

With my second, never. Never weighed him at the babyclinic more than a handful of times.

Once your baby is 12 months, you don't need particularly sensitive scales. Agree with headfairy to just weigh them on home weighing scales.

I took DD1 religousy every two weeks untill she was three after that it was every month and then every 6 months untill she was five when I disacharged her from her specialist as I didn't feel we were benefiting at all from it. But that is because she is underweight.

DD2 went every fortnight untill she was 6 months old and they told me she was greedy and eating too much and should be out on a restricted diet or she would end up obese. After having one child underweight and the being told my other baby was overweight, I gave up. I stopped taking dd2 to be weighed. She was at the hospital yesterday who say she is slim but healthy. She is 18 months now. The extra weight due to her 'greediness' dropped off when she started moving.

just weighed her on bathroom scales, seems to be about 9.5kg, so still just above 2nd centile. Discovered I have put on weight though, ...boo. Thanks for replies everyone.

That's good news JenAT.... I think anywhere on those scales should be ok. Ds spent most of his first year on the 0.4th centile (up until I stopped weighing him as it depressed me too much)

about the weight, it's the downside of weighing them yourself. My Wii fit keeps prompting us to weigh the children using the wii fit... I'm thinking no bloody way mate, no matter how cute your voice, you'll probably pack up with that much weight on you!
