Red foreskin

5 month old uncircumsised ds. Noticed today his foreskin looked a bit red. I put a little nappy cream on it but at next diaper change it looked a bit worse. I cleaned his penis well with wipes & he didn't seem to mind so I don't think it's hurting him. He doesn't have a temp or anything. I searched online and it seems it could be just irritarion because of the nappy. Could it be worse? (ie do I need to rush him to the doctor? - like I can do that on new year's day!).
Just looked at the time - happy new year! (Live in US so only 6pm here)

Perhaps you could leave his nappy off for a while, to let the air get to it and let it heal. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about, it's probably just nappy rash, and at worst, a yeast infection. If normal nappy rash cream doesn't help you could try using a mild canesten type crea, until you can see your doctor. And try using cotton wool and water to clean him instead of wipes, while it's sore.

Cosmicdust--What cream are you using. Try some A&D if you have it. My ds2 gets like this (general diaper irritation) and a nice bath in warm water and A&D tends to do the trick.

He also could be sensitive there to the wipes, so try cotton wool and water.

You can also get an antibiotic oinment over the counter in the states. It is called neosporin. It wouldn't hurt and it might sooth the irritation a bit. Since it is an ointment it will halep to form a non water sluable barrier when he pees. (although desitin or whater diaper cream you are using) should do the ssame, but won't have an antibiotic in it.

Neosporin is fantastic for healing any kind of cut/scrape and is also fab on eczema. You can get it at any drug store (Wallgreens, etc.).

We have this whe DS2 is left to long in a full nappy. You dont need anti B cream. Like other poster, go back to cotton wool and water, plenty of air time. I use something called 'badger balm' its organic olive oil with chamomille, its for babies and is availible from boots, sainsburys and john lewis. Its £3.99 for a small tin but it lasts ages, i use it for this problem, cradle cap and the nappy area, its amazing stuff.

badger balm

thanks!
I should change his nappy more often at night then! I'll try cotton wool & warm water & also might buy a different kind of nappy today. I don't know where I can find badger balm, but I have a sample of some posh organic/natural nappy cream so I might try that
Thanks for all the responses
