He has leg pains in his groin and in his ankle and is quite fluey over last couple of days. Was sick tonight after coughing loads. Was sick about 3 weeks ago too (one off event). Am very worried as lost a lovely pupil of mine to bone cancer this year. Its in the forefront of my mind. His leg pains come and go and are no worse at any time of day. He is 9.

I know this isnt very helpful but all you can do is take him to get checked out by your GP & possibly get an xray? Could be growing pains, but I dont know about the being sick. I feel for you though!

Definatly get it checked out else you will worry yourself silly.

Ds suffers with cramp/growing pains/whatever at night and occasionally in the day and can be hysterical with it.

I took him to the docs and they gave him a really good chek over, felt his legs, watched how he walked and asked lots of questions.

Yes, do take him to see someone (someone who'll will understand about your pupil too, do explain about that - it's very relevant!)

I don't know about bone cancer warning signs, but from our experience of growing pains (masses but all non-serious) the main leg concern would be hip aches, so not groin, but the outward bone - those can indicate speed of bone growth outstripping speed of blood vessel growth, which can be a problem of course because the head of the bone then doesn't get enough supply. It's rare but important - look at Perthes disease if you want details. But really, the pain would be quite localised in the hip joint.

I know how you feel. My sister's son died many years ago of a cancer (that affects boys) and from time to time my DS shows some of the (VERY COMMON!) signs that my nephew had at the beginning - and I panic. So really I do understand. Take him and get it checked and you will sleep easier.
