So has anyone else's child got this FARKIN virus that's going round - a bit of a cold, high temps, occasional vomiting...

It's just bloody great....not. Ds had it last week and was ill for about 2 days. DD has had it for coming up to 5 days. She's barely eating, she's only been sick twice (and both times was first thing in the morning after having a drink) she's getting temperatures that need calpol and neurofen to get them down. She looks crap (grey faced). WHEN is it going to go? Poor little mite

Seems very similar to the one my DD's got. I just posted about it. No temperature but definitely the not eating, sick occasionally and looking grey-faced. We're on day 5 and not really any better, tbh. We start the day quite happy and then end up with crying and vomiting. I despise these nasty little bugs with mysterious symptoms. Poor poppets. Hope it didn't spoil Christmas for you, gaspodis.

GaspodisWearingASantaHatHoHoHo · 27/12/2008 20:02

It didn't spoil Christmas but it has meant we haven't been able to see any of our friends who have children because she's still infectious Will look for your other thread.

My DS has a good dose of something. Last Saturday he was sick and had a temp, calpol reduced the temp but not for long, same Sunday and on Monday when the temp was still high-ish and he was coughing, took him to the GP who gave us a prescription and said, fill it if he is not right by Wednesday (because of it being Xmas). By Wednesday the temp was down but the cough getting worse so I got the medicine, he's been on that for 4 days, still coughing, now streaming with snot.....
Bloody bugs. Was hoping to go and see some friends either Monday or Tuesday but if he isn;t better, will probably have to cancel (friend is PG).

Piffle · 27/12/2008 20:07

Oh yes
2 weeks on still sporadic vomiting, usually after coughing fit but not always
No temps now kids seem ok u tip the sudden puke...
I've got adults version, temp sinus pain etc
Grim
I always remember xmas for illness more than anything

Bauble99 · 27/12/2008 20:10

DS4 started throwing up on Christmas morning followed by diarrhoea.

The vomiting stopped yesterday but he still has the diarrhoea.

Hope your DD feels better soon, Gaspodis.

GaspodisWearingASantaHatHoHoHo · 27/12/2008 20:13

Shite. TWO WEEKS????! Don't think there is any point going to GP. She is a bit better but just can't shake temps. No doubt she'll be better in time to go back to school exhausted for the start of term

I wouldn't say she has a stomach bug as such, she's had a couple of bouts of diarrhoea at the beginning but her tummy seems to be fine now and as I said the sickness has only been when she has drunk water on an empty stomach. The worst thing is the temperatures. She seems fine for hours then suddenly starts shivering and goes pale and her temp is up again. Sorry, am waffling up but am so fed up on her behalf

dd1's had this virus, cold, cough, temp, random throwing up. Didn't last 2 weeks fortunately, just a week or so, and seemed to shake it off quite quickly. Hope your dd's ok.

GaspodisWearingASantaHatHoHoHo · 27/12/2008 20:21

ProfY - yes that is exactly it, hopefully hers will only be a weekish then...

dd is fine just on the odd day coughs a gunky cough then vomits.
Cries then is absolutely fine-she is 6 and missed the last 3 days of school.
Ds2 is 21mths and is fine now buthe had pneumonia in mid nov and was in hospital. So when he caught this virus I was terrified, but he recovered faster than big sis.

GaspodisWearingASantaHatHoHoHo · 27/12/2008 20:27

Now that is weird Piffle. Ds had it last week and was ill for about 2 days. Was talking to a friend's dh this morning, he says he thinks this bug seems to affect women more than men (he wasn't taking the p*ss) as his wife, mum and daughter were much more ill with it than his son who recovered quickly from it.

Piffle · 27/12/2008 20:30

yes agree
Ds1 is 14 had it and still did morning paper round in the cold snap and went to school.
DP has avoided it altogether!

blueshoes · 27/12/2008 21:00

Ds 2.3 was very difficult and clingy yesterday at PILs'. Fell asleep in my lap at lunch and when he woke, spit up. Then spent the next hour or so on my lap refusing to play or eat, slight fever. Then he was fine by mid-afternoon and played nicely. Appetite still off.

High fever almost the whole night long. Woke up fine, played, eating very little. Spent a lot of the afternoon, cuddling me on the sofa and being really affectionate. Lay on my lap watching TV. I was just thinking how nice he was to just lie there, me stroking him like a cat.

misdee · 27/12/2008 21:03

dh and dd3 have had it. dh was ill for a week, dd3 off colour for 4 days.

Posey · 27/12/2008 21:46

Ds has got it. Started on Monday, bloomin awful Tues and Wed with v high temp, bit of vomitting, nasty cough...He was really fed up on Christmas day, he so wanted to enjoy it properly. By yesterday still feeling crap and the whole family round at my mum's. He was really touchy and weepy as he still felt rubbish but was trying hard for their sake, but really couldn't be arsed with it all
Its his 6th birthday on Monday. I hope he's better to enjoy it. I feel so sorry for him. This age is so magical at Christmas and I feel he missed out.

whomovedmychocolate · 27/12/2008 21:52

It's week four in the vomity chocolate household. DD got it first, then I got it, now DS has it and has lovingly returned it to me for christmas

I spoke to a GP and he reckoned we probably were coming to the end of it but it's hideous. Worst one we've had in years!

BTW DD still isn't eating solid foods much! It takes ages to get back to normal.

haveamerrymankyscotslass · 27/12/2008 21:55

DD had a high temp, vomited once, then two lots of bile later in the day. High temp for two days, sore throat. Woke up next day, no temp, no vomit, nothing.
This is the girl who if gets a tummy bug is sick every half hour for 2 days, then has the runs for 2 weeks, going on the evidence of every past tummy bug. It left her weepy, but she is a drama queen anyway
Very strange bugs going round.

sb6699 · 27/12/2008 23:13

My poor DD2 has this. Started off with a bit of a temp/cough last night and today she has been lying on the couch and hasn't moved (not right for a boisterous 2 yo). She's red hot and being sick even though she hasn't eaten anything.

GP said only thing we can do is give her calpol/ibuprofen and plenty of fluids but she's not keeping it down

feedthegoat · 27/12/2008 23:26

I thought we'd all had 2 seperate bugs but it would seem not! My ds was vomiting sunday and monday (I joined him for monday and tuesday) and then on tuesday we started with really bad chests, coughs, temps etc. DH has is too minus the vomiting start. No sign of it shifting yet either and i'm in work on monday (obviously office on bare minimum cover too for added joy!)I can't remember feeling this exhausted for a long time.

Piffle · 30/12/2008 13:15

Week 4 here and today we have the happy news that the next step once the occasional vomiting has gone (when you breathe that sigh of relief, it's finally over kinda thing)
Bi Lateral CONJUNCTIVITIS
Both kids
AAAARRGGHHHH
DD aged 6 is just so sad, she has now missed out on seeing her cousins from Dubai and from seeing her grandparents and getting her xmas presents from them as for 5 weeks them and us have been too sick to meet up....
I am ready to inject bleach into their veins to clean them out....

Honeymum · 30/12/2008 13:44

DD1 has had high temps, lethargy and pasty face for over a week. Started on 22 December with vomiting for the first 3 days. We visited casualty on Boxing Day as she was reporting a stiff neck and light from the fire and xmas tree was bothering her. She picked up yesterday but has had the temp again today. When will it end?! Our Christmas has been terrible.

Winebeforepearls · 30/12/2008 13:52

Poor everyone.

I think we've had flu at WBP Towers. I've been in bed since 5pm Chrimstas Day, just about up now but still shaky. dd2 has had similar, temp, no appetite, but thank god no vomiting. She is also up and down, sometimes bouncy, sometimes crawls back to bed (which may simply coincide with Calpol doses of course)

dd1 now has similar. Poor DH has been doing all childcare and cooking for 4 days and has just said 'I will never doubt you again when you say you're too tired to do x, y, z'

galen · 31/12/2008 17:33

Just seen this thread - we are definately there with you all! All together one or other or several of the kids have been ill for a month! Started with a round of vomiting ( think that one was norovirus) that swept through me and 5 kids, then DD 4 had flu for a week, then the next round of the mysterious cough, temp, sporadic vomiting virus, and yes two of them are now rounding it off with horrendous conjunctivitis.
I am so sad for them all being so ill. Poor DS 2 ( 8 months) is so sad, he is up all night and his eyes look so bad.
Normally they are all really healthy kids, but this winter we've been hit hard. I am so ready for a return to health!
