what the hell do i do?She gets every virus ds brings home but Doc checked her couldn't find an obvious cause to this one, no cough no snivel. Was 40 degrees this morning, slightly lower after calpol, been going on since Friday. Feel so bloody seleep deprived. And she is so unhappy. Just don't kno what to do, everytime calpol wears off it shoots up again.

I find baby Nurofen works better than Calpol and for longer. Have you tried that?

rubyslippersiappearinginpanto · 22/12/2008 11:43

tis horrid - is she eating/drinking at all

has GP checked for a water infection?

have you tried nurofen as well?

strip her off and bathe her in luke warm water

PingpingsatonSantasface · 22/12/2008 11:43

Ruty there is the flu going round maybe your DD is starting to get that.

Give her loads of fluids and make her rest up hope she gets better.

VinegarTitsTheSeasonToBeJolly · 22/12/2008 11:44

40 is quite high, can you rang NHS direct for advice?

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 22/12/2008 11:44

I'd probably take her back to the GP if its been going on for days. It's possible there is an underlying cause that wasn't spotted, ear infection or the like.

Also, alternate ibruprofen and calpol.

no because had had blood in her poo a few months ago and i thought it might irritate it. Just don't know why she has the high temp. Doc was stumped but worried. Great help!

Poor you.

40 degrees is high for small baby, I think. I would go back to GP/A&E.

snickersnack · 22/12/2008 11:44

Did he check her ears? In my experience doctors can be a bit hit and miss in terms of what they check and in the case of my two it can often be an ear infection, which would be missed if I didn't ask them to look.

But I think quite often these things don't have any obvious other symptoms. ds is the king of the "nothing obviously wrong, I'm just going to mope around being hot and sad and generally out of sorts" virus. And it's not fun for anyone.

Keep giving Calpol. And you can give Nurofen too at the same time. As long as the temperature is coming down after Calpol, I think that's the main thing.

Sympathy to you - it's miserable. We've just stopped being the house of sick and I am very grateful.

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 22/12/2008 11:45

alternate calpol and nurofen, make sure she is having fluids. take her back to docs if you feel it is necessary. DD had similar and she had an ear infection too which responded to ABX. she is a baby, doc should see her again if no improvement

ruty · 22/12/2008 11:46

she screams blue muder if i bathe her! TRying to catch pee in a bottle now [yeah right] but also have pad to try. Doc saw her this morming. Oh effing hell.

ruty · 22/12/2008 11:48

might have to try nurofen Lulumama. She slept naked and was still 40 degrees. Not good is it Doc not ve helpful, checked her ears but said too much wax to see

OP posts:
TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 22/12/2008 11:55

Too much wax
Try a different doctor?
I've waited til 5 past 6 and called the after hours doctor before because I thought the doctor that was seeing one of my DCs was a twat.

kitbit · 22/12/2008 12:05

If you're still worried take her to a&e. They would rather check over a baby and say all is well than miss something that might escalate into something more serious. The worst that can happen is that they send you back to the doc saying it's not serious, and that's a good thing. At any rate, they can check for dehydration etc more efficiently.
Go with your instinct and if you're worried don't hesitate to go to the hospital.

lisad123 · 22/12/2008 12:09

DD1 does this a lot, and often no reason. We never got to the bottom of most of these. I tended to do a strip off, calpol and neurofen, cool bath and fan on her. HTH

lispy · 22/12/2008 12:17

Were her cheeks really red at some stage? Could be slapped cheek. If it is it will end soon, she might then get a rash and sore joints.

ruty · 22/12/2008 12:22

actually lispy, her cheeks were quite red last night. wouldn't ds get it too though?
[might try a different doc VS - did you have a meet up? Been so caught up with sick effing children]

OP posts:
ruty · 22/12/2008 12:23

how long does it last though lisad?

OP posts:
lisad123 · 22/12/2008 12:25

dd1 used to be like this for anything up to 3-4 days. Never did get to bottom of most of it. sorry not much help. GP just said some kids are like this.

ruty · 22/12/2008 12:36

thanks lisad. hope like hell it goes before christmas...
