what age is she? how fast is she breathing? does she look like she's struggling to breath?

if you're at all concerned then can you phone NHS 24?

mrsgboring · 21/12/2008 20:48

If she seems to have any difficulty at all with breathing, I would get to A&E - sounds nastily wheezy to me on the little you describe.

whoopsididitagain · 21/12/2008 20:50

shes 2
not breathing overly fast
will try nhs in mean time

she is seriously whistling now though

dizzyjingles · 21/12/2008 20:57

you can always try to let them hear it down the phone - I've done that before

weWITCHyouaGigglechristmas · 21/12/2008 20:58

I've got 2 dc with asthma - would certainly hit a&e. they can get better at amazing speed, and equally get worse just as fast. Would rather be in A&E and risk being a neurotic mother than stay home and worry.

CrushWithEyeliner · 21/12/2008 21:01

A&E wrap her up v warm

whoopsididitagain · 21/12/2008 21:02

whoopsididitagain · 21/12/2008 21:10

can you check whether her skin is 'sucking in' between her ribs? are her nostrils flaring? is the skin at the base of her neck by her collar bone sucking in? I always take my ds to hospital when this happens. If she's seriously whistling you really need to take her. Better safe. xx

dizzyjingles · 21/12/2008 21:12

in the meantime can you get her into the bathroom and get the shower & hot tap on and steam up the room a bit?

TheSeriousSanta · 21/12/2008 21:13

I have just taken my DS (7 months) to A&E about the same thing. They checked him over (we made an appointment with HUC and told us he was fine in about 5 minutes.)

He's still coughing and breathing like an old man with a liking for bensons, but at least we know he's OK.

Call your Urgent care dept. (The out of hours Docs will put you through)

ilovelovemydog · 21/12/2008 21:13

Chest problems are so difficult in toddlers... They will probably want to listen to her chest, I would think.

TheGarishlyTwinkleyMadHouse · 21/12/2008 21:16

If you are concerned in any way, please take her to A&E.

If she is listless, cold, lips or fingers are blue.

Lift her clothes and she how hard she is breathing. Is she recessing (pulling in) under her ribs.

Is her breathing shallow or fast.

With little ones, they go downhill really quickly and it is better to besafe than sorry

whoopsididitagain · 21/12/2008 21:17

yes she is doing the neck thing and rib thing

think i'll go a and e
