My 2 yr old ds has spots, what do you wash children's faces with?

He had chicken pox in april and since then he's always got spots on his face. He picks at them habitually so I have to put plasters on so they can heal.

I went to the doctor a while back and she prescribed antibiotics which reduced the spots for a little while but didn't get rid of them. They seem to get worse when he's ill and he's had a cold recently and then a reaction to a hypoallergenic plaster my mum put on so they're quite bad now.

I'm just wondering what I should be using to clean his face and if anyone has any advice?

I think you need to think about what is going on inside his body not on the surface.
I am surprised that a 2yo was prescribed antibiotics for spots. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria in the gut including the friendly bacteria. Have you tried giving him some friendly bacteria to put his gut back into balance? Solgar do one called ABC iirc it's a powder which doesnt taste of anything, you can mix it with yoghurt or whatever.
If they get worse when he's ill it sounds like his immune system is low. You might need to see someone about that. Make sure he's eating a healthy diet and getting plenty water, cut out sweet foods if possible, the sugar encourages the bad bacteria to grow back and you can get an immbalance in the gut.

I'm not a doctor but I have candida in the gut which was partially caused by overuse of antibiotics (for wisdom teeth trouble)and eating too much sugar. It was sorted by a nutritionist who advised me on diet and supplements. I had really bad acne and it went away when nothing else I had tried, including antibiotics from my doc, had made any difference.

Also, my 5yo tends to get spots if she's OD on cheese.
Children shouldn't need anything other then warm water to wash their faces.

i just use water and a flannel.

when she baths she has a drop of halos and horns for bubbles, or just a sock of oats if her skin seems dry.

I use flannel and water for DD. She is prone to spots due to her facial scar, but I still would not use anything else on her face.

I guess I'll stick to plain water then, thanks.

Shitemum, I'm not keen to give him supplements as he eats a pretty normal healthy diet and I rarely give him surary foods (although he's often being looked after by others who are not as strict as I am!)

Ok, but try the friendly bacteria to replace the gut flora killed by the ABs, it's not a supplement as such and will do absolutely no harm. Unlike antibiotics...
