Someone talk to me about ITP

Last weekend my nephew (5) looked battered, he was bruised all over. My parents told my brother and his partner they needed to get him straight in with the GP, which they did Monday morning. 20 minutes later he was in the Children's Ward having tests. It turns out he has ITP (I think everyone was thinking the "L" word but no one wanted to say it so we all sighed with relief). His platelet count is 10 and they've been told he's not to be left on his own, the school have found someone to follow him around at all times (not an easy job as he has ADHD and Aspergers).

Someone talk to me about their story, especially with positive outcomes from such a low level.

My son has had and has recoverd from Henoch schonlien pupura which I think is a more serious form of ITP, we had the bruises and the pinprick rashes. This lasted for quite a few weeks, with HSP you also get athritus and we has lots of swelling of the ankles. My son also had lots of lethargy and lost alot of weight and was generally unwell for about 6 months, well after the rashes had stopped coming. His blood counts where fine (thank god). He had to go for regular blood pressure checks and urine checks as with HSP the bleeding can occur on the organs, also it can result in kidney failure in extreme cases, I don't know if that is the same with IPT. Originally my sons condtios was diagnosed as IPT but was reclassifed as HSP. The doctors told us to let him get on as normal and go to school, but he is home-ed anyway, but there is no way on earth he could have gone to school. It took at least a year and a half for him to fully get back to the energy levels he had before the illness.

I would say this to you that IPT is a side effect of vaccination, its and auto immune response to an invading virus or allergic response to something, your sister in law might like to check if her child has had a vaccine lately and do some research on them. IPT responses are about one in every 10,000 doses.

I hope he recovers soon and the prognosis for most cases of Ipt and HSP are very good.
