Tartar on my ds teeth!

When did you first take your young child to the dentist? How often do you brush your kids teeth? At what age did you start using regular toothpaste (verses toddler toothpaste). Do you floss your childs teeth?

Mine is 3.9 and we will be going to the dentist for the first time next month. We brush every night but I think I'm going to start doing it in the morning too due to noticing some tartar. And of course its always a battle for him to let me do it first, and then I let him do it after. We use that toddler toothpaste right now. I'm not sure if the stuff is effective enough but I know he would swallow regular toothpaste.
We just started flossing, he doesn't seem to mind that.
I'm suprised he has tartar, he rarely gets anything with sugar, snacks are always cheese, apples, etc. No kool-aid or pop.

I'm kind of obsessive about this. Have always brushed, twice daily, and at 2.7 DS has been to the dentist three times.

We sing a song whilst we brush. DS drinks watered down juice regularly. I think plaque build up is inevitable, even if their diet is low sugar.

I use toddler toothpaste as the fluoride level is better. i have tooth prbs due to overly high fluride prbs as a child.

While fruit is better for you than sweets, it still has sugar - apples for example have sugar and acid. All food and drink can lead to plaque forming.

I'm intending to take ds to the dentist in the new year, he'll probably be 20 months by then but probably should have taken him already.
