Quick calpol question - I should blardy know the answer but I've forgotten.

Ds had calpol at 5pm. His temp was 38. Now it's 39. Should the calpol have kicked in yet or should I wait a bit before I try neurofen as well? Poor wee chap. Has gone as red as the top he is wearing.

you can give nurofen at same time as calpol

id give him nurofen now

Ime, calpol takes about an hr to work, and we use it ALOT!

Ok will give neurofen I think. Might give a quick wash over in a lukewarm bath too if that's not working. He's in good spirits with it but just v. red!

Nurofen definitely okay at the same time, different active ingredients.

Make sure the bath isn't too cool as it can shock his system if he's very warm- his body would fight to raise the temp even more.

What's causing the temp, do you know?

Oh he has the same lurgy as all the other children at nursery/school. Vague cold (runny nose) and temp. Also slightly dodgy stomach. He's actually usally really resilient so I think this is a watered down version of what some of them have had - oh well, at least he'll be done with it before Christmas. His temp has gone down a bit now so I think I can avoid the bath trauma. Hopefully dd won't get it...

I find ibuprofen to work better and quicker than calpol. Has his temp gone down now?

Yes, temp down to 37.4 - I'm obsessed with my digital thermometer, stupid thing.

Nothing wrong with being slightly obsessed with thermometer. My ds had a temp of 102 last week, called NHS line, they told me to give ibuprofen about 40 mins and as long as temp came down, even just by 1 degree....
