If she hasn't already had chicken pox, then yes there is a possibility that she could catch them, but, as far as I know only if she comes in direct contact with your rash.

rempy · 17/12/2008 13:39

am thinking yes. very long potential incubation period though, so from day you first had symptoms can be 21 days for her to develop chicken pox

rempy · 17/12/2008 13:40

but can also be 10 days

Your infectious before any spots appear so she will have been exposed so there is a high chance that she will get chicken pox.

Well, the shingles are on my a* so no direct exposure!

My! What an unusual place for shingles! And rather uncomfortable I imagine. Poor you.

christywhisty · 17/12/2008 13:59

I had shingles there as well. We were on holiday in a little cottage and I bent over in the bath room and my butt hit the hotradiator, made me jump but didn't leave a mark. Lot of stress going on at the time and 2 weeks later I had 12 shingle spots in the same place.

I've been told that it's hard to catch chicken pox from shingles - only if you come into direct contact with the sores, or if you rub your shingles and then touch someone. So given where your shingles are, you should be ok. Have you got antivirals?

Seona1973 · 17/12/2008 14:09

your lo would need direct contact with the fluid from the blisters to be able to catch chicken pox so unless she has been pinching your bare bum you should be ok

Poor you, I've had it twice, in Oct/Nov this year and last. On both occasions was very very stressed so I'm already planning to relax next year.

I'm going to study Reiki 1 in January so I hope that will make a difference.

Mine are on my head, I feel really flecky when I scratch without realising in public! Next I see someone scratching their bum I'll be more sympathetic

Thanks all. I have anti-virals and am being VERY careful about potential transmissions. I have a reserved loo seat!
